Need info on Mizoram

I need help, I have decided to travel to Mizoram later this year first is it safe to travel in Mizoram alone?
What is the easiest & fastest way to travel to Mizoram from south India? Things to carry when you are travelling to this region? Important Places to visit in Mizoram? is Mizoram a expensive place to travel? Is there anybody out there who has visited Mizoram recently and would like to share their experiences please reply to this post

Have you got a permit? Are you going in with a group ? If no to either of these, I suggest you read this page:

Getting to Mizoram isn't as easy as the rest of India ! I would suggest that you find a travel agent who organises tours, and then expect the permit to take 4-6 weeks...

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

I went to Mizoram a few years ago - it was very good. We chanced upon a very good guide who showed us around. It isn't very used to tourists (at least it wasnt when I went there in 2007) but we found the state tourism hotels in Aizwal to be fantastic. Make sure you book in advance!

If you are a indian citizen then things are pretty easy to arrange yourself, otherwise it might be easier to get the stuff done through a operator.

I was there in march - april this year.. wonderful place i must say.. I am working on a travelogue that might help others interested to travel there.. in the mean time some info for you...

- ILP for indians can be got from kolkatta, guwahati, shillong or silchar in the region.
- i got mine from shillong. personally go to the mizo house in cleve colony filled a form and got it in 15 mins.
- Travel options to aizwal - lot of of govt and pvt buses operate overnight trips from guwahati and shillong. shared sumos also are available.
- Aizwal was not much to my liking. quite crowded. but dont miss the night view of the city. particularly seeing the city from a distance at night is truly out of this world scene.
- The aizwal airport is quite far from the main city and you might be forced to take a taxi.
- within mizoram is primarily by shared sumos. govt buses are also available. in Aizwal sumos start from millenium center.
- It might be difficult to get north/south food in places other than Aizwal.
- You may be able to manage with english in most places. Knowing some mizo words go a long way in getting along with locals.
- Dont be surprised if you find yourself to be the only outsider there.
- I could manage only Phawngpui ( Blue mountain). a must visit. you can stay in Saiha or if you are ok with minimum comfort at Sangau which is the base for the mountain. There are many more beautiful places u can get to in mizoram.
- You can also cross over to Burma at some places. permissions may not be difficult to obtain
- Stay and food are quite cheap

Hope that helps. Have a wonderful trip
