Had read through many posts here and got totally confused, request the knowledged contributors to suggest.

25th Oct - Flight from Mum - Guw
26th - Kamkhya Temple + Sualkuchi
27th - Pobitra National Sanctuary
28th - Morning travel to Shillong
--------------
04th Nov - Morning Travel to Guw + UmaNanda Temple + Shopping
05th Nov - Flight to Mumbai

Have booked the Guw leg through AirBnB which I use travelling overseas as well. But am blank on the Megalaya leg where we are expecting to cover the places and stay atleast for 2 nights at each stop.

Please also sugegst places for authentic food at both Guw and Meghalaya

Hi Ajay,

For 6-7 days you can easily cover a few good places in Meghalaya.

My suggestions are as follows:

28- Guwahati - Jowai via Shillong Bypass. Attend the NH7. Halt
29- Jowai - Mawlynnong via Amlarem, Shnongpdeng and Dawki. Halt at Mawlynnong.
30 - Mawlynnong - Sohra. Sohra sightseeing. Halt
31 - After lunch Sohra - Mawphlang. Halt
1- Mawphlang - Mawlyngbna via Mawsynram. Halt
2- Mawlyngbna - Mawphanlur via Pariong. Halt
3- Mawphanlur - Shillong. Halt
4- Relaxing day in Shillong /Umiam or Bamaeri Resort.
5- Catch flight to Mumbai.

Umananda and Guwahati shopping can be done on 26th itself.

You will need to book the accommodations soon as October - November is rush season.

hi,

Thanks for this valuable input...do i need to stay one day each at the places suggested by you below or can make a couple of less halts as am wit my 3 yr kid and never plan to cover all the things in one go.
28- Jowai halt
29- Mawlynnong halt
30 - Sohra Halt
31 - Mawphlang. Halt
1- Mawsynram. Halt
2- Pariong. Halt
3- Shillong. Halt

Secondly would u suggest us to book a cab starting from Guw itself for the entire road trip or are ther any other alternatives?
what i meant by authentic food is Local food....only good travelers and localities do know which restaurants / places offer them.i

If that is the case, then we may have to think of an alternate itinerary.

28- Guwahati -Shillong. Halt
29- Shillong sightseeing Halt
30 - Travel to Mawphanlur and return to Mawphlang. Halt
31 - Travel to Mawlyngbna and return to Mawphlang. Halt
1- Mawphlang to Sohra. Halt
2- Sohra - Mawlynnong and Shnongpdeng. Halt
3- Shnongpdeng to Jowai. Halt
4- From Jowai proceed to Guwahati.

I hope this will be more comfortable with you.

You can hire from Shillong as sometimes the taxi drivers from Guwahati only know Shillong, Sohra and Mawlynnong.

Are you vegetarian or non-vegetarian?

For Shillong you have options depending on your budget.

For Mawphlang go for MaplePine Farms. Sohra you can think of Kutmadan Resort or Jiva Resort or Saimika park. Shnongpdeng the local guest house. Jowai you can opt for Haven's cove or Ialong Travellers Nest or CTC Orchid Inn.

The best places in Shillong to have local khasi food are in the tea stalls in offices and the Jadoh shops in Iew Duh/Bara Bazaar

Other places where you can try Khasi/Jaintia local cuisine are :

Tratorria - Police Bazaar
Jadoh - Don Bosco square, Laitumkhrah
Alelang - Lower Lachumiere
You & I Arts cafe - Mawroh (Khasi snacks)
