Hi fellow travel bugs,

5 of us are travelling to Meghalaya for 5 days. We would reach Guwahati on 11th August 10 AM and have to leave from Guwahati at 1 PM on 15th. Would request help to plan the itinerary as there are just too many places and I don't which ones should we prioritise. Thanks in advance!

Also, would like to know if rainfall would be a problem during this time.

Guys, please help.

This is how the basic itinerary looks like:

11th - Reach Guwahati at 10:30 AM. Leave directly for Cheerapunjee. Explore places around, including Living Root Bridge Trek.

12th - Leave for Dawki and Mawlynnong. Stay at Shillong.

13th - Explore areas in and around Shillong (including Elephant Falls, Sweet Falls, Shillong Peak etc.)

14th - Explore either Mawphlang / Umiam Lake.

Now the problem is, we are missing out on some places, notably Mawthadraishan Peak, Krang Suri Waterfalls and either Mawphlang / Umiam Lake. Someone please help me to make this itinerary more effective and feasible

You cannot do Living root bridge trek on the same day when you reach Guwahati.

Umiam lake is before reaching Shillong.

For just a little more than 3 full days, I would keep the itinerary simple.

This is what I would suggest.

11th - Reach Guwahati. Proceed to Shillong. Some sightseeing. Halt
12th- Start for Sohra. Double decker trek. Halt at Sohra
13th- Sohra sightseeing. Proceed to Mawlynnong. Halt at Mawlynnong.
14th- Mawlynnong, Dawki and Amlarem sightseeing, Proceed to Jowai. Halt
15th - Leave Jowai by 6am. Proceed to Guwahati airport via Shillong Bypass Road.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I later realised that was unfeasible. I like the itinerary that you are suggesting, but the only problem is finding accommodation at this stage. Most places are booked. Would request you to suggest suitable accommodation for Maylwnnong and Jowai so that we can plan basis this itinerary.

Alternatively, I have found places in Cheerapunjee for 11th (Kor Shongthait Homestay) and 12th (Falls View Tourist Inn), Mawphlang on 13th (Keanen Guest House). Couldn't find a place in Shillong for 14th, the alternate itinerary is as follows:

11th: Reach Guwahati. Proceed to Sohra. Sohra Sightseeing.

12th: Living Bridge Trek. Halt at Sohra

13th: Proceed to Mawlynnong and Dawki. Halt at Mawphlang.

14th: Mawphlang sightseeing. Proceed to Shillong. Shillong sightseeing. Halt at Shillong (need an accommodation)

15th: Shillong sightseeing. Leave for Guwahati at 1 PM (My flight is at 5:30 PM)

Additionally, also wanted to whether 5 people are allowed in a cab and the estimated cost per day for travel for the above itineraries. Thank you so much in advance!

Waroon, your itinerary also looks good, if you want to keep it more relaxed.

What is your budget for daily accommodation (Shillong is expensive, and presently difficult due to the sudden diversion of Darjeeling tourists to Shillong)

For 5 people, better get a self drive car. Or a bigger car like Innova.

Just wanted your opinion on what would be a better place to visit - Mawlyngbna or Dawki/Mawlynnong, as I've heard the lake wouldn't be clear at this time.

Our budget for stays in other places is 4500/night. For the night in Shillong, we can probably stretch it to 5500/night for 5 people

Yes, we're planning to hire an Innova for 5000. Is that a reasonable price?

Mawlyngbna is still not popular with tourists but offers quite a few things to see. Main attraction in Mawlyngbna are the Marine sea urchin fossils and the Animal foot prints folktale which looks like various footprints made out of maybe lava. Another half a dozen things are also there to be seen.

Mawlynnong is one of the main attractions in the state but will have thousands of tourists visiting in a day. Cleanest village in asia, some water falls and root bridges are also located nearby. The falls from Mawlynnong to Dawki are nice.

Dawki, well its a place close to the Bangladesh border, situated on the banks of the Umngot river. No lakes anywhere near. Shnongpdeng is the best place to visit which lies upstream of Dawki where all sorts of water activities are available. But like you said, water will not be clear in this season.

Ok. Sohra you can think of
Kutmadan Resort,
https://www.facebook.com/kutmadanresort/

Jiva Resort,
https://www.facebook.com/jivaresort/?ref=br_rs

Saimika resort,
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sai-I...24102807716526

Shillong you can think of The Heritage Club
https://www.facebook.com/The-Heritag...4825431277624/

Or The Habitat

Innova should be about 4500 a day considering this is the regular sights to visit.

Thanks for clearing that out, Karikor. I'm sorry to be so confused, so now the final itinerary looks like this for 4 of us (not 5 as originally conveyed), basis the accommodation we have got:

11th: Reach Guwahati. Travel to Mawylnnong. Mawlynnong and Dawki sightseeing. Halt at Cottage at Mawlynnong.

12th: Travel to Cheerapunjee. Cheerapunjee Sightseeing. Halt at Cheerapunjee.

13th: Living Root Bridge Trek. Halt at Cheerapunjee.

14th: Shillong Sightseeing. Halt at Mawphlang (Maple Pine Farms).

15th: Explore Mawphlang in the morning. Leave for Guwahati.

Hope this looks fine to you. Didn't want to compromise on Cheerapunjee sightseeing, considering we will get half a day so fine with exploring Mawlynnong in that.

Just had a couple of queries:

1) Would it be economical for us to hire a cab for all 4 days, directly from Guwahati, considering the itinerary. Do you have an idea regarding the total cost per day for the cab, considering it's 4 of us and we would require a small cab now? If not, how can we explore all these places for a cheaper price?

2) The place I have currently booked for the two nights in Cheerapunjee is not great (Falls View Inn). But most places like Sai-I-mika, Kutmadan, Coniferous, La Kupar Inn etc. are booked. Would you be knowing of any decent places that might be available?

Why stay in Mawphlang after visiting Shillong? I would suggest you move towards Umiam Lake.

Small car as in Swift Dzire small? Then should be about 2500-3000 a day.

Not much options in Sohra. You can search from Trip Advisor on list of places.
