We went around 10:30 in the morning. Submitted our paper work -
Passport copies,
copy of resident permit,
Marriage certificate,
Indemnity Bond on 100 Rupees stamp paper and Notarized,
Address Proof,
1 passport size photograph and the fee
and got 6 months X visa extension in a few hours!!
Right after we submitted 2 sets of same paper work + PIO form and 4 photographs + payment in a form of demand draft and they gave a letter for our local police station for verification. The cops will verify in a couple of days and send them a report. That's all there is to it. I was very surprised that it took only a day for all this. Now, we just have to sit and wait for his PIO card which they say will take anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks

EyeJam, I am seldom so pleased to have been right about something

All, so far, has worked out just as well as my hunch thought it might. Still, you have to get that PIO card in your had. Keeping fingers crossed.

Very happy for you!

Hi,
We just applied for PIO as well recently and in the FRRO they asked to endorse my husband's name in my indian passport. Do you think its a must for PIO application?
Eye Jam - have you endorsed it?

I don't think if it is must for PIO, but my wife as asked for the same when she applied for her PIO in Yerevan, even my name was not endorsed in her passport and her's in mine they accepted the application and she got her PIO.

I am afraid if I'll be asked for the same when I go for her registration/RP two days later.

When I got my PIO card abroad, no spouse's name was endorsed in my passport. Actually I don't know if my country's passports have a place for such endorsements.

How many passports do? Mine (UK) does not. India does. Is it just an Indian thing?

The Spouse name in Indian passport is not mandatory, but adviced to be included.

It was apparently due to the many cases of Indians or Indian origin people marrying and then trouble brewing. Dowry harrassment, ill treatment, abandoning, multiple marriages etc happened and the victim did not have too many things to get the foreign settled spouse to India to face trial.
