Sri Lankan marrying an Indian registration documents

Hi I'm a Sri Lankan planning on marrying an Indian national in Bangalore. The problem is with the documents that are needed to register. I will be coming on a tourist visa to get married and I need to know what documents are needed. I read somewhere that a no objections letter is required from the Sri Lankan consulate in India but how do I go about getting this? I'm a little confused and the sub registrar is not very helpful. I'm wondering if he is angling for a bribe!

If anyone has any experience or thoughts, please share~

Thanks

This is about showing that you are single, not about showing that your govt doesn't mind you getting married.

Yes, you need something, although not all registrars will ask for it all the time. Those who have been married before have the simplest deal: divorce papers will do!

Oh ok... one last doubt, if I'm not around in India can my fiance start with the registration process and give notice without me physically being present? Of course I will be around for the final registration

Thanks ! Still trying to find the part where I need to be there for the actual giving notice bit. I went through this site some time back too.

I think that the person who gives the notice has to have been resident in the registrar's jurisdiction for thirty days.

Apparently the marriage registration procedure in Bangalore is not "clean" and I'm wondering if I should get a lawyer to handle the documents and notice for registration? Any thoughts ?

What is not clean about it ? Common wisdom is that lawyers do not bring any added value to the process.
