Marriage in India
Marriage in India
Hello,
I am American (of Non-Indian Origin), and am planning to marry an Indian man in India. I am currently in India on a student visa, but am planning to leave, return on a tourist visa, marry and apply for a PIO card. We would like to marry in India, but have had trouble getting certain information. Basically, I need to know what the requirements are that I need to fulfill in order to get my marriage certificate (I believe I'll have to get an certificate of eligibility to marry from the US Embassy in Delhi... what else?). Also, I want to know if it would be better to marry before I leave while still on my student visa, and then apply for the PIO card while in the US...
Any info would be great!
Thanks
Jules

Hi Jules, have you done a search on the board ? I think I have posted relative info once before. Anyways for a registered marriage as they call it here you may need to prove you are single, India is an affidavit friendly country though, so if your home office/ministry of interior (what's it called in US ?) don't issue such certificates , a notarised affidavit would suffice, you could get this done at the US embassy I suppose.
But if you are both of the same religion or don't mind being married off by a license holder of either's religion, you won't need the abovementioned.
