Getting married in Sri lanka - Legal Procedures ahead

Hey Friends ,

Need someone to help me on my unique situvation , Im a Indian National currently living and working in uk , my partner is Pak national who is Living in pak , We want to get Registered married in sri lanka ,(As it would be easier then getting in to all the legal & visa issues in our place).

What's the procedure for two different nationalities ppl getting married in sri lanka ?

DO we need some kind of NOC from our Respective Embassy to get married in there ?

Post our Register marriage , does that marriage certificate need to be re-register in my and her home country ?

We are gonna live in uk going forward so does that need ot be also done in INdian high commssion here ?

Can some senior member help me get some answers ,knowing my situvation is bit complicated , please some guidance and advise would be much appreaciated..

Thanking you all in advance
Kind Regards

Probably the wrong place to ask.

However, we have a few Sri-Lankan members, so you might be lucky and get an answer.

Where do you plan to live? It can make sense to marry in the place of your intended residence. Stuff like marriage docs is immediately recognisable to authorities. If you are going to live in UK, you have to go through the visa thing.

So get married in UK. Or is it a visa issue ? Budget ? Did you speak to Aunty Bing or Uncle google ?

No, you do not need permission from any Embassy to get married anywhere. (Unless someone point me to Uthulu-Emacs Island. where you need permission from Multics Embassy to get Married)

I missed that bit obviously.

So, she has to go through the settlement visa stuff anyway. This assumes that you have long-term permission to be in UK already.

The UK Border Agency web site is your friend. It is detailed, and you will need to spend quite a lot of time studying it, but it will give you just about all the information you could need.

We are gonna live in uk

Firstly thanks a lot Nick-H & nycank for Reverting ,

Yes currently I'm on a long term Migration visa in uk , which can be extended latter to Residency..(still i Hold Indian passport)

We applied for her Marriage visitor visa for uk couple of months back , it got denied on technical points which offcurse can be Re applied and done , but she has to again go back pak and Apply for her spouse from there , As it would cost time and money doing this twice , (6 months )

We decided to get married and then straight apply for her spouse dependent visa for uk or India.

So now the search starts for the ideal place to get Registered married for the two controversial nationality people ..

Your thoughts & guidance please ?

nycank has a short list of caribean islands as pleasant and easy places to get married and enjoy the honeymoon.

Sorry ... I have no idea.

Recent talks between India and Pakistan led to announcements of some visa procedures being eased up by India. Talks and announcements are one thing: don't know when or if it would happen.

Married in Sri-Lanka

Hello friends, i am here because the same situation i have been rigging bigging . Well i am from pakistan and my wife she is from thailand actually first we met on internet some social networking site and fall in love and decided to get married. After that me apply for thai tourist visa in islamabad thai embassy and got rejected because of a freaking Travel agent and then she apply for pakistani visa which was sponsored by me and after a long time procedure they told me she got reject by the interior ministry of pakistan. i am telling you my whole story then we decide to go some other country and get married we point Sri lanka which is easy and quite cheap place. our 1st visit to Sri lanka was shocking and seems everything is okay there. WE get married under the civil law of sri lanka. and then she decided to convert to Islam and we did Nikkah As well there. i talked with thai and pakistani embassies in Sri lanka @ phone and they said of course we can get married in sri lanka. so now my plan to go ministry external affairs and i attested both marriage certificates as i told you we both dn't have any idea of rules and laws in both country's even in sri lanka. after attestation from Ministry external affairs sri lanka i went to pakistan high commission and the visa section officer seems like he is gonna do some help for visa of my wife and he told me he will arrange a meeting with consular officer and let me told him everything and he has authority to give you visa i filled visa form for my wife and submitted in embassy and he call me to come again next day. And the Next day he said she doesn't have residence in Sri lanka so they can't grant her Pakistani visa if she married to me already. And he told me let me attest from high commission of pakistan and i must pay some money to him and come again after 3days i went there again and get the nikkah paper with some kind of stamps and one of them is written something like > Signature of ministry of External affairs of sri lanka attested without any liability on this mission. Thats all and he said lets go back to your countries.. whats the Hell she is my Wife in Muslims law and why she can't get pakistani visa in sri lanka? and i can't go with her because embassy of thailand in srilanka said this marriage is not valid because we both dn't have residence in sri lanka wth...!! it was my story dude maybe some1 doing someting like me. i don't knw now i am in pakistan and she is in thailand and we both crying and no one is going to help us about visa. anyone here know anything pleas contact me or reply me thank you and sorry for my tinglish(English)

1. If you are in Pakistan, apply for visa at the Thailand mission in Islamabad based on the Civil marriage certificate issued in SriLanka and attested by pakistani mission in Colombo.
2. If she's Thailand, let her apply with Pakistani Mission in BKK based on the marriage certificate issued in Sri lanka.
