Wine tasting in Nashik?

Hi, I am trying to plan a trip to Nashik for wine tasting, but I am not sure how it works.

Can you just show up?
Are their vineyards that are open to visitors?
Any recommendations on good places to stay? (affordable and nice)
And it seems like a train from Mumbai might be the best travel option?

I would love any advice!
Thanks,
Katie

hi Katie,

there are buses leaving from Dadar at around 6 aM i hear to nasik. if u plan on a single day trip from mumbai - u can also hire a cab.

for the wineyards, i dont believe u need to book ahead. just call to confirm, just incase. When we went to Sula, the only issue was that they don't serve food. and it was mid-day and we were ravenous. and all they had on offer was cheese and pineaple starter. So, would be a good idea to take wafers etc, especially if u plan to order a bottle and relax for a while, after the wine tasting session!

wine tasting

Let me know when you wish to go for wine tasting. I was also interested to visit the place. We can go in My car and share the expenses.

yes you can showup just like that.
Sulawines charge you 150 rs for entry and i think that includes a toast of wine but not sure.

you can move around in the wineyard, even stomp the grapes with your legs and see the wine processing. they got a restaurant and a bar.
recommended time to spend will be half a day to single day. not more.

From Mumbai you can take the Pushpak train in the morning to reach Nashik comfortably around 10.50 am. From the station the place is probably around another 20-25 mins by taxi/auto. We drove from mumbai since it was more convenient.

You dont really need reservations. Best idea when you get there is to go to the tasting balcony and chill for a while as you assess the crowd situation rather than piling onto the herd. (gets crowded on weekends). We just ordered a few bottles on the balcony . Later for a fee (i think it is 150 /head) you get a tour and a tasting menu of 6 wines.

Crushing is fun to do and you need to let your waiter know about the same. For us the kids in the group wanted to do it. They bring out a tub and fill it with grapes and allow you to have at it. We found that we had to make multiple requests before it was arranged, probably because the waiter did not want a barrage of requests. It is around Rs 250 a head.

The offering on the balcony are limited to wine, cheese, coldcuts and nuts but there is a very good restaurant called little italy where you can get a great meal

All in all, a great way to spend a weekend. We stayed at a friend's place so dont have recommendations for hotels but the GInger would be a neat, clean, reasonable and modern place to stay.
