Thumbs up what is wrong with maharastra?

from the page devoted to 'maharastra' one gets a feeling that this state does not hold any thing of interest to the tourist. the complete forum on maharastra does not even spill over to the second page!!!!!!!!

Its a fact that Maharashtra hardly has anything of interest for the tourist. Ajanta+Ellora and Matheran+Mahabaleshwar are the very few attractions that warrant a separate forum for "Maharashtra". And when Mumbai is treated as a separate entity, the state's bankruptcy is even more evident.

Maybe, cyberhippie, but it is heavily oveshadowed by Goa and Kerala.

And when it comes to the hills, I shudder to think of M&M, Igatpuri or Khandala/Lonavala as even a poor man's Kasauli!

Yes happily it is overshadowed by it's sister states of Goa and Kerala!! It adds so much more charm to the place that it's not overrun by tourists!
Personally I'm quite attracted to Maharashtra and what I've seen so far has only encouraged me to see more!
I loved Aurangabad some of the friendliest people I've come across in India!!
And Malvan is a gem!

That's great cyberhippie! You certainly are a positive person!

I belong to Maharashtra, having been born and brought up there; and having covered most of it extensively. Hence with me its perhaps a case of "Ghar ki murgi daal baraabar" ! Sorry I cannot provide its correct translation in English, maybe someone will !

You've started a very good and relevant thread, sadhuji. Thanks to cyberhippie for presenting a very positive picture and also to freemanx for his interest.

Such threads are always welcome.

Thanks Navinkurian for that helpful corrective. A lot of the best in Maharashtra is not in any guidebooks. It always used to blow me away driving through the countryside to come across such sites. Maybe its better that its not well publicized. And compared to Karnataka with vast amounts of sites Maharashtra is cleaner and friendlier (a little bias appears here)..

Kolhapur is definitely the place to go. I'm from Maharashtra too. Let me just say that Marathas are the real Indians. If it weren't for the Marathas, there would be no India as we know it today.
