I know some unexplored destinations but I'm not going to tell you .... because they are Unexplored !

OK... depends on by which Mumbai - Goa route you traveling ... if you traveling by state coastal highway then many scenic places will be along way . If you traveling by national highway 17 then you need to take diversion to visit interior place/beach in Konkan .

I'll suggest visiting Nivati fort in Sindhudurg district. From NH-17 you need to take diversion from Kudal . Nivati is in between Malvan - Vengurla road.On one side of Nivati fort is Bhogawe beach & to other is Nivati beach .It's a beautiful place I'm sure you'll love it.

You can find shortest route by using this link :

http://www.mapxl.in/path-finder/map_...nfig=routi ng

Most part of NH-17 is OK .Avoid night driving on this highway.
Coastal route is narrow ,many sharp turns but also less crowded & more scenic.Allow more time if going by this route.

The best route to go to Goa from Mumbai is NH17.
You can also go to these places which are on the coast from NH17.
If you want to avoid the crowds go there on weekdays.

From Mangaon take a right to Shrivardhan which is around 45 kms. If you make Shrivardhan you base you can visit Harihareshwar, Diveagar, Baghmandala.

From Chiplun take a right to Guhagar which is around 42 kms. If you make Guhagar your base you can visit Hedvi Ganesh Temple and Beach, Velneshwar Shiv Temple and Beach, Veldoor,Anjanvel.

From Nivali Phata take a right to Ganpatipule which is around 31 kms. If you make Ganpatipule you base you can visit Malgund, Pawas, Prachin Konkan Museum.

From Kasaal take a right to Malvan which is around 35 kms.
If you make Malvan you base you can visit Dhamapur Lake, Tarkarli Beach, Devbaug Beach, Chivla Beach, Tondavali Beach, Sindhudurg Fort, Vengurla, Sawantwadi, Amboli.

Rajered's pretty much covered it all, but I'll add one more option:

From Khed on the Bombay-Goa highway, take a right and head to Karde via Dapoli (about 45kms off the highway). There are a bunch of beautiful beaches there - Anjarle, Ladghar, Murud-Harnai (there are some forts there too), and of course Karde. They're pretty unspoilt and virgin beaches - you won't find too many tourists there, if any at all.
