Special thanx to srshenoy, madhu_nair and biman for their very interesting reports about their visit to Lonar!

This year finally I will go to Lonar, too, and I think, it will be one of the highlights of my trip. I plan to come from south west (Jalna), because I want to visit Ahmadnagar and Paithan be4.

I found a place between Jalna and Lonar called Sindkhed, which is around 30 km ENE of Jalna. Intestesting might be:
1. Lakhuji Jadhavrao's Samadhi (19°57,23'N 76°7,64'E)
2. Samadhi of Raja Lakhuji Jadhav (19°57,12'N 76°7,29'E) and
3. Kala Killa (19°57,37'N 76°7,40'E).
You can check on Google Earth where some photos are linked in.

Does anyone know, if the bus from Jalna to Lonar passes Sindkhed or do I have to return to Jalna again to proceed to Lonar? How frequent are the busses Jalna -> Lonar?

Lonar is great place and if someone goes there- dont forget to trek down the lake through trail going through jungle. You will come to ruins of 4 temples in four directions. These ruins are with their broken statues are in open...since centuries....but one can have a idea of how in back of times...people realize that this place is somewhat abnormal....could nrver come to conclusion thus make SHIVA temples in four directions.

Shindkhed Raja is small town 25 km from jalna on way to Lonar from Jalna/Aurangabad. From Early morning from Aurangabad Via Jalna one bus goes to Lonar. In return leg you have to come Sultanpur 13 KM from Lonar, From Sultanpur you will get many of buses to Shindkhed Raja, from Shindkhed Raja you will get bus to Jalna or Aurangabad.
Please note : No hotels at shindkhed Raja only one PWD government rest house is there.

Hi Sachin,

thank you for these good news. Aurangabad and the sights around (highly recommended) I have already visited. Thus, I will come either from Paithan or Beed and change busses in Jalna. Starting early in the morning it should be possible to take a break in Shindkhed and going further to Sultanpur and finally to Lonar. I think I will arrive there in the afternoon and I can spent the night (and probably one more) at Lonar.

Accommodation in Lonar near the crater

How is the accommodation scenario in Lonar near the crater now? Few years earlier doesn't seem good. I want to visit this place sometime 2nd week of Nov and looking for some decent accommodation. Any suggestions? If anyone visiting at the same time I would tag along. Let me know. Thanks!
