I dont think this helps your trekking plans but there are many leopards in the area (i've seen one myself). This was way back in 1999.

Malshejghat

I've heard Sushant is closed for renovation. But the MTDC resort is the one that seems to be more popular.
Went there this weekend,Was not too happy with my stay there. we got a groundfloor room, which had a catipillar or two walking in. The room was damp and the bed linen was moist and dirty. the power keeps going off and we had no water in the taps throughout the night. Quite an ordeal.
You need to be careful of the drunken revellers, especially if you have women around.they create a racket and are a menace.
One can see liquor bottles and plastic water bottles strewn around the place which makes for an eyesore.
The PLACE THOUGH IS BEAUTIFUL and the weather is awesome.
Book your stay in advance though.
Travel - we hired a Meru cab from mumbai till kalyan bus stn.Came to abt rs 850. We took a ST bus (ticket rs 60 per person), quite an adventure but it was fun. The scenery is to die for. the locals are nice and simple people and are helpful. the bus stops on the road near the MTDC resort.

Thanks for the update Minniemouse.
Its a pity that the drunken revellers continue to rule the roost on weekends, not to mention the accompanying litter.

Malshej is incredibly beautiful. We avoid weekends because of the nuisance. I hope to be able to make a trip there this season mid week, sometime.
