Malshejghat
Freesoul, the MTDC(Maharashtra Tourism Development Corp.) used to run the Flamingo Hill resort at Malshejghat, but it has now been handed over to a private operator. Since the resort is extremely popular with visitors during the monsoon, you need to make advance reservations. Further on, as you travel from Mumbai, there is one basic hotel in Khireshwar, at the base of Harishchandragad.

Thanks Praks for your inputs on the Malshej ghats region. What I also want to know is it possible for me to explore either the Nane ghats and Amboli ghats in two days time or for that how many days will be adequate and what should be budget for the same for 3 to 4 people. Any advice will be appreciated.

Malshej Ghats

You can BARELY explore the Nane Ghats AND Amboli Ghats in two days time. Only thing you will be driving all the time. The pleasure will be difficult to seek. Unless you are preparing for a car rally. From the bottom-up its a pure trek. From the top its a very kuchcha-jeep-road road to Nane and a foot-path to Amboli.. .

MTDC at Malshej Ghat
Quote:
www.maharashtratourism.gov.in There is a cheaper hotel further down the road from the MTDC hotel but I can not remember the name. As far as I recollect, these are the only 2 in the vicinity. BY the way, avoid weekends during the monsoons unless you want to join the hordes of unruly drunken male visitors in their 'revelry'. Incidentally, extra police are posted there during the weekends, and believe me some of the stuff these 'revellers' get upto can be quite intimidating to those who go there to enjoy Malshej's splendid natural marvels. Weekdays during the monsoons especially after a heavy downpour - you will think you are in paradise. |

Public transport to Malshej Ghat from Mumbai
Quote:
By train go from VT to Kalyan, from there take any ST bus headed in the Ahmednagar direction, they all have to pass Malshej Ghat which is located on the Kalyan - Nagar highway. Im not sure where the ST bus stand is in Kalyan, most probably nr the rly station. You can also probably hire an autorickshaw from Kalyan - at negotiable rates. Believe me, it is much better to have your own vehicle. |

ST Bus
ST Bus is the convenient mode of transport if one does not want to spend on private car or private taxi.
Auto rickshaw will NOT come for 80 km ride, unless the fees are very attractive. The ST stand is just outside the Kalyan station on the left (as you face the direction of the ongoing train from CST) Do post your experiences at this alternative Resort alongwith its prices etc. Most ppl know of only MTDC at Malshej Ghat. . . |

"If taking the train to Kalyan, you can hire an auto rickshaw, many of which run between Malshej Ghat and Kalyan on a shared basis, at about Rs. 150 per head." |
