trek to naneghat

Hello,

I am planning a trek to Naneghat. I would like to know what is the distance from Mumbai / Kalyan and the time required to travel to this place. Any additional info on the travel details would be helpful...

Mumbai to Kalyan by local train.

At Kalyan take ST bus going towards Malshej Ghat and get down at Vaishaakhare.

Mumbai to Kalyan is approx 70 km and Kalyan to Vaishaakhare is 60 km.

Naneghat at this time will be presenting it's best scene to you. Do not forget to see KUKRESHWAR TEMPLE. Rocks are slippery near CAVE and keep special vigil on monkeys. They can attack a lonely person in cave if they find interest in your food.

one more question.. would riding the way to naneghat on a bike from thane be a good option at this time of the year? and since this is my first time to naneghat.. or any other trek on bike for that matter.. what would be the post trek implications? please advice... Any route info available on the net? how about parking space at the foot of the hill? would it be safe to park (obviously i am not expecting pay n park there!! :-P)?

Parking at the village of Vaishaakhare means you will have to walk some 4 km extra one way. [in vaishaakhare you can tell a villager to "see" it for you] Parking at the start of the trek in the jungle means you risk your bike being stolen. We have parked jeeps at this place and found the mirrors tampered with somewhat.... so bike..... ????????

I always had been to NANEGHAT via Junnar. Never traveled there from MALSHEJ GHAT. If you come from JUNNAR SIDE..you ca park your vehicle right at cave site.

as this is rainy season- I do not want to suggest you to climb JIVDHAN..otherwise this place provides panoramic view of KONKAN PLATEAU. And getting closer to VANAR LINGI which is a 80m high tower which had been climbed by some climbers from PUNE and MUMBAI.

Hi !!

The best bet would be take a Sumo with a driver so that u can go all the way upto the naneghat diversion and theres no hassles of car parking. This is easily acheivable if its a 1 day trek and you are not planning to go to Jivdhan fort.

Thank you so much for all your replies!! I went to Naneghat last weekend. And i have been left spellbound by its beauty. Such lovely place.. i had probably not seen anything similar my whole life. It was rainy, cloudy, foggy all the time and so mindblowing.. i haven't got words for it!!! Apparently i found that after we'd reached the caves and past the (shivaji era) "toll naka" (err.. sorry.. i hardly know them by names... correct me if they called by different names!!) onto the plateau, there was an approach road leading straight to the toll naka. A 10 minute trek from there took me to the (possibly) highest point in naneghat. So next time i'll make sure i find that road around the Malshej Ghat to this place on bike!! And yeah.. this place on the plateau doesn't seem to be that very risky to park a bike...

Next on the cards is Harishchandragad.. next month probably.. and i hear that this is the baap of all gads!!

Congrats on your outing...

Harishchandragad in the rains may turn out to be somewhat more than you can chew...(i don't know your capability and i might be underestimating it.)

If you are going from the Malshej Ghat Khireshwar side, please go with an experienced trekker or local guide... some of the climb is slippery and exposed.

Else go via Panchnai side where the climbing is safe but the road drive is pretty long [kasara igatpuri ghoti rajur panchnai]

I think PACHNAI is safe in rains , yes road is hanky panky but this region is very scenic. But you should come down from same route as negotiating TOLAR KHIND in rains is fine...but depends on experience.

Someone should be with you when you go for H.Gad

Can you please give details about the Junnar side vehicle rought for naneghate? We have trecked it in different part of year from malshej ghat but some of my friends physically unfit to climb but I want them to see the fantastic caves. please help

Junnar to Aptaale phaata 10 km

A. Phaataa to Chavand Phata 7 km

Ch. Phaataa to Ghaatghar 12 km

(Ghatghar is the base village for the Jivdhan fort climb)

Further....

Ghatghar to Naane Ghat cave 3 km

Total 32 to 33 km. Very rough roads. 90 min drive

There is another option. After the dam was built, the Road after Malshej goes up the mountain towards Ganesh Khind and Hadsar. After you get down, don't go straight to Junnar, take a right towards Ajanavale.... around 40 km. From Ajanavale to Naneghat is another 5 km. This road is also very rough... and you might not know the route.

For a newcomer, the first option route from Junnar is well marked. Upto Aptaale the road is good.

The second option has only rough road and maybe NO road.

If you are going in the monsoon, dont take the second option.

The road can be traced backward all the way to Junnar .....

From what I could observe on this wiki link... the road is asphalted almost upto Ghatghar

Yes when I was there in march-08 road construction was going on near Ghatghar...hopefully it might have completed by now....but there are still few bad patches in between Ghatghar -Hadsar- Junnar road....other road Ghatghar-Chavand-Junnar is still in very bad condition though...
