Tell me about Thal

My mother-in-law recently built a vacation cottage on some property she owns in Thal which is walking distance from the beach. I don't know anything about Thal except that it is near Mumbai.

When I look up Thal on Google, all I see is stuff about urea plants, nuclear heavy water plants, ammonia plants and fertilizer plants. I am not too keen on visiting this vacation cottage and/or swimming in the water around there due to this.

Can anyone who has been to Thal tell me about the area?

Thank you!

Thank you for the welcome! I will have plenty more questions about India ...

Here are some pics of the beach in Thal and the cottage during construction.

Hi TJILL,

Thal is a place just 5-10 kms from Alibag. Its not known much to tourists but for RCF , a huge Fertilizer factory. The beach is cleaner than alibag. If u can arrange a motor-launch from there u can also see couple of sea forts called 'Khanderi' and 'Underi'.

Thanks and Regards,
Yogesh Gadre

Hi....Thal as pointed out is a place near Bombay, adjacent to Alibaug......

Read this book....
"A village by the sea" by Anita Desai....its based in Thal only...

By the way Yogesh....can we go to Khanderi or Undheri....there doesnt seem to be any ferry going there,,,and boat men also refuse to go there....they told me that it is offlimits and is controlled by Indian Navy!!!!
