shirdi, ajanta ellora and mahabaleshwar

Dear all,
I wanted to know few things about the places mentioned in the title.

1. Can we plan a trip to these places in the month of december. Will the weather be okay?
2. Can we do go for a 7-10 days trip to cover all these places (is it feasible?). If yes, how do we start and end our journey? Please advice.
3. what would be the best route and conveince for these places? I want to avoid bus. flight/train and car is ok. We reside in UP.
4. what all other places ( like temples and religious spots) we can add up which are not so far and can be covered easily?

I appreciate any input.
Regards

From Mumbai, travel to Pune by train.
FROM PUNE to Mahabaleshwar, it’s 128 km/ 2.30 hrs by car.

You can get down at Nashik, I believe all trains coming from UP has stop at Nashik Road, from here you can goto Shirdi, then Ajanta Ellora and from there you can goto Pune/Mahabaleshwar.

Return back to Pune and take return train to UP.

sujata73, UP is big ! You may be at Jaunpur or at Saharanpur. The suggestions will vary accordingly, why don't you disclose your exct location or at least nearest railway station ?

If your train stops at nasik then you can follow this route nasik, triyumbakeshwar, ajantha and ellore caves, shirdi, singnapur, pune. I think 7-10 days is quite sufficient to cover all these places comfortably.

There is a train to Shirdi from Mumbai Train No 1333 running on all days.
From Shirdi Aurangabad is around 150 kms. There are frequent buses.
From Aurangabad you can go to Mahabaleshwar by bus.

Sujata, we were at Ajanta, Ellora 2 months ago - Breathtakers. Do NOT miss Daulatabad - Can be clubbed with Ellora. Let me know if you have any specific queries about Ajanta, Ellora & Daulatabad and Aurangabad.

Yes ! Take a train to Manamad, from where you get plenty of share taxies to Shirdi. They charge around Rs. 100 per head. Don't depend on buses for this journey. Maharashtra Roadways buses are called 'Lal Dibbas' by the localites and they are neither dependable nor comfortable as for smaller journeys they use older buses.

From Shirdi you get many taxies for Shani Shingnapur. It's a nice place where houses have no doors, a place to be seen to be believed. It's a half day trip.

Then you may take taxi to Aurangabad or you may opt for MSRTC buses also. Since this is a long route (5 Hrs.) the buses are slightly better.

Once at Aurangabad you may opt for ITDC/MTDC bus tour to Ajanta & Ellora. And yes as weaknee said don't miss Daulatabad and Khuldabad too ! Daulatabad fort is the place where mad Tughlaq moved his capital from New Delhi, the fort surrounded by the moat is awesome.

At Khuldabad, Aurangzeb's grave is to be visited.

You can plan like this:

First of all come to Aurangabad and in one day you can do full Ajanta, and next day Ellora, daulatabad + Aurangabad City Tour,

After 2 days in Aurangabad,

3 Day you take a taxi /bus to Shirdi / Shani Shingnapur, and in the afternoon itself you can return, many times I have gone to shirdi / shani shingnapur from Aurangabad at morning 6 and returned by 4 pm.

IF you further wish to continue your journey then better dont come back to Aurangabad, from Shirdi itself you can take a bus to Pune, and stay in Pune, from Pune you can go to Mahabaleshwar and I think you can stay in Mahabaleshwar for some 2-3 days, also you can check out these older threads for more information

Visit to Aurangabad - Ajanta Ellora

Please note we are also going with our 7 months old son...that the reason I dropped mahabaleshwar trip as it would be really too tiring. Kept only for 7-8 days trip.

ITINERARY 1: KANPUR --> JALGAON (STAY overnight)--> AJANTA (by tavera)-->AURANGABAD (STAY)-->ELLORA --> SHIRDI (STAY)--> SHINGNAPUR-->NASHIK (STAY)--> KANPUR

ITINERARY 2: KANPUR--> NASHIK (COVER NASHIK AND TRIMBAKESHWAR, STAY AT NASHIK)--> SHIRDI (STAY)-->SHANI SHINGNAPUR-->AURANGABAD (STAY)-->AJANTA-->ELLORA-->JALGAON-->KANPUR

please also let me know good hotels at shirdi/aurangabad and jalgaon keeping in mind my liitle one.
