Visit Ganpatipule enroute to Goa. You could also visit Murud Janjira but it is more closer to Mumbai.
In Pune do not forget to try out Kayani's / Royal 's Shrewsberry Biscuits.
Also Chitale's Bakarwadi

Gokarna,Malwan & Ratnagiri are good options if u're thinking of moving to Goa. Goa would be an off-period as it becomes really hot this time of the year. If u wanna hang around Pune then we could meet up. I'm a native here, feel free to PM me. There're no. of interesting places to hang around. One of the things u could do is come to IUCAA, it's an open science day & I'm vounteering there.

Good morning/evening to all,
Just to brief if there are people who might come to the IUCAA open science day or something it's a 1-day event starting from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at night. We're expecting somewhere between 6-10k people to show up. If possible would post some of the pics. of IUCAA buildings as well as some pics. of moon through telescope or something.

Bhimashankar and Mahabaleshwar come immediately to mind.

In this "monsoon" season, there are several forts around Pune such as Purandar, Sinhagad, Torna etc which will be worth a trip.

Pune members can give you more info.

Morachi Chincholi - Peacock village

I also just remembered Morachi Chincholi, about 60km from Pune. Its a small rural village full of wild peacocks. The villagers protect them as they associate these birds with their local deity. They are all over the place, in the fields, on tree tops, roof tops, everywhere. Or at least they were in 2004 when I was there.

The route is along the Pune Ahmednagar road. After Koregaon Bhima [interesting old cenotaph here on the riverbanks] go upto Shikrapur and look out for the signs, or ask for the road to Morachi Chincholi. This was a bad road in 2004. There is a better road if you go on the Nagar highway all the way upto Shirur and then take the Malthan route to Morachi Chincholi. We took this route on the way back, being a much better road surface.

There is reportely, a similar place in Tamil Nadu - full of protected wild peacocks, Virulimalai or something like that. Not sure.
