pls suggest an itinerary for 3 days in mumbai

Dear all,
My relatives will be going to Mumbai on thursday i.e. 26th june. they will be arriving Mumbai sometimes around 12noon by indian airlines flight. They have flight back to Delhi on sunday i.e. 29th june at 5p.m. So basically they 3-3.5days in Mumbai. Pls suggest an itinerary for the tour. Please keep some time for shopping also as they will be interested to do so.

1) take in the architecture (Victoria Terminus; Churchgate; some of the statues and Victorian buildings down the main street from Leopolds (heading away from Fort and further into Colaba).

2) A 1/2 day outing to Elephanta island (via the Gateway of India)

3) A visit to Mahalaxmi dhobi ghat (either taxi there or take a local train to Mahalaxmi station and walk out to the main road and you can't miss the dhobi)

4) poke around some of the market stalls on the main streets (be aware that some/many/all of the dvd's that are offered for sale may be dodgy or blank disks and bargain hard - prices are set way too high for almost everything.

5) dinner at some of the local establishments (other than Leopolds which is now little more than a name of a once famous place to hangout)

I think that should do for the moment.

Cheers
Zoltan

When I've been there, I've never seen any such tours (mind you, I wasn't looking for one - in Delhi, they seem to stand out).

If you're interested in doing an Elephanta island tour, there is a guide who will take you all the way and explain everything (included in the ticket price over there). When I was there, the lady was an employee of the Maharashtra Tourist Development Commission and she did a good job of explaining everything.

Tickets for this are available from many of the boat /ferry operators at the Gateway of India.

As for the rest, it's easy enough to get around (buses; trains; taxis) and do things at your own leisure.

Cheers

There is a museum tour run by MTDC in an ac bus. Check out MTDC website for details. They cover 4 - 5 museums in one journey. It will be a rushed tour. http://www.maharashtratourism.gov.in/

A one day trip although a rushed one can be made to Matheran, where no vehicles are allowed. Since it's monsoon time greenery there will be pleasing to the eyes.

Ronak.

u can shop at heera panna and crossroads for high end shopping which are near haji ali and mahalaxmi.for stylish as well as cheap things you can go for fashion street as well as crawford market.

restaurants are nice mostly in suburbs like china garden and copper chimmney chopsticks...but i would suggest you ambassador revolving restaurant at marine drive..ate there so many times...its not even too expensive...

good luck!

Monday closed, if I remember right. If you are staying in South Mumbai - Fort side, it will take you well over an hour to reach, so do start early.

Jeep safari? There are buses which take you into the lion and tiger enclosures - these are called 'safaris'.

You can go for treks / hikes of varying lengths on several trails, or simply walk along the road going to Kanheri caves. You can take your own car or pvt taxi upto the Kanheri caves, or with prior permission, to the lakes. In the monsoons, it is a very pleasant and scenic outing as you can stop by several streams on your way to Kanheri. Take along a packed lunch and beverages.
