Incidentally, I did the same itinerary in the last week of Jan.
We traveled by S.T. bus throughout our journey. We started from Pune and went first to Tuljapur. This route goes by Barshi but the roads are not really in good condition. Distance is around 270-280 Kms.. I would suggest you to check the route via Solapur i.e Pune-Solapur-Tuljapur. This distance would be around 280-290 Kms.. Advantage is better roads.
On first day, we halted at Solapur in Vinayak Lodge near Solapur S.T. bus stand. It is good compared to rent. 2 options are available. 290 Rs (Attached bath) and 380 Rs(Luxury room). We opted for first option.
If your budget is more than this, you can go for any other Hotel.
On 2nd day, we took a bus towards Ganagapur.. It's really tiring journey. The distance is around 120 Kms but travel time is around 4-5 hrs. We reached there around 1.30 pm.
After visiting the main temple and the sangam, we started our return journey by 3 pm.
Around 6 pm, we reached at Akkalkot and had "Darshan" at the temple. It was really nice experience overall.
Akkalkot is around 40 Kms from Solapur.
Around 7.30 pm, we departed towards Solapur for 2nd day halt.
On 3rd day, we visited famous Siddheshwar Temple in Solapur and Bhuikot Fort. Then, we headed towards Nannaj Sanctuary. We could spot some Black Bucks in there.. But no luck for Great Indian Bustards
.. Best season is in monsoons..
Around 4 pm, we left for Pandharpur and within 2.30 hrs we were in Pandharpur. Distance between Solapur and Pandharpur is ~70kms.
It took around 1 hr for Vitthal darshan.
Late night, we left for Pune.
Great experience overall..

Dear Sushant,
Thanks for ur kind revert..
I will be commencing on the Journey from Mumbai. Also, will be doing the same in Car as i will be having 4 Old people with me.. my parents and in laws..
Is the Solapur to Gangapur road very bad? Since it took u 4 to 5 hrs to do 120Kms stretch.. Even by an ST it shouldnt have taken more than 3 hrs normally..
Also, is it possible if i start early morning from Solapur, take a halt for Darshan at Akkalkot and then move to Gangapur and return back the same day? Only worry is that it will still entail a travel time of atleast 10 hrs..

ketan

Most of Solapur-Ganagapur road is in bad condition.. With car also it would take around 3.5-4 hrs.. Also, you can always do Akkalkot before moving to Ganagapur. Having private vehicle along is an advantage.
Fortunately, we found the buses pretty quickly. So, had no problems at all. Certainly, the journey can be done within a single day. These places are not much crowded unless there is some special day and you are not traveling on holidays.

hi asutosh
Hi Ashutosh...
First of all congratulations for this wonderful thought of embarking on this wonderful trip of Maharashtra..
Maharashtra is full of such places, each having its own mahima..
However, it would be a pretty long one considering that you are covering almost the entire maharashtra...
Also how are u planning to do the trip? is it by public transport? or u going by car / private transport? Also, how many days do u have on hand? Do lemme know.. will help plan accordingly..
Amongst, the key Datta dhams of Maharashtra, you must also include Narso ba wadi near Kolhapur, Akkalkot and Gangapur (which is in karnataka..
regards,
Ketan

Do you plan to visit Tuljapur or Siddheshwar temple only? If you are going to start from Kalyan, you will do almost 1000 kms journey to and fro. Reaching Solapur itself will take you around 9-10 hours. Solapur you can visit Siddheshwar temple and bhuikot fort if time permits. I think, same day, you should head towards Pandharpur and take halt. Next day you can continue towards Kolhapur. Kolhapur you can visit Mahalaxmi temple, Jotiba or Rankala. Not sure what is your priorities.
I can not guide you much about the accommodation/meals. Solapur has many accommodation alternatives around bus stand. Pandharpur we did not stay. so can not help much.

If you reach Solapur by early evening or afternoon.. You can visit Siddheshwar temple in the city and also a visit to Solapur Fort is a nice option. It's very close from bus station.Visit to Akkalkot would not take long time.. You may extend it to Ganagapur in Karnataka and make it in one day and come back to Solapur.
When you go to Tulajapur, you may think of visiting Naldurga which can be covered in one day, I believe.

You can cover it if you start early morning from Solapur for Tuljapur and come back to Solapur by 2/3 pm. On a normal day, it will take 1-2 hours for darshan. As far as photography is concerned, I may not be able to suggest anything in Solapur but if you are interested, you can visit Bhigwan on the way back towards Pune.
