Places to trek near mumbai?

Hello all,
I would like to know abut places to trek to near mumbai other than rajmachi & maybe the walk upto matheran ( if that qualifies for a trek :s). I was going through the maharastra forum & found out about malshej. Are there other places like malshej where i can trek to? Ideally a 2-3 day trek.Please suggest....thx

There is one trek to Peth Fort (Kotligad) near Karjat. I & my wife did this trek in ond day but you can stay ovenight at the top. You can read an account of the same at

Ronak, i have myself not visit Shirota, but plan to do it in Nov/dec, its a couple of hours trek. Its a pvt lake used by Tata Power for hydel power generation, One is to go from Lonavala to a small village Vaksai and from there onwards by foot up a hill and then down onto the lake, let me visit it and will surly post a report. Plan to do it with my wife this time, hope she comes along....

Hi dew there are tons and tons of places to trek around mumbai ...

I have lots of trek info on my site at http://amitkulkarni.info/pics/ ... alternatively you can join a Trekking group like http://natureknights.com who trek 1-2 times a month and arrange most of the basic stuff like transport ... this sunday they are planning a nice trek

Thanks ... hope to see you on one of the treks ... this is the best time ... by Dec the greenery would be lacking
