Overnight bus from Aurangabad to Sholapur
Hi, all. I'm going to take an overnight bus from Aurangabad to Sholapur (or Solapur?), then take a morning train to Bijapur, but I haven't found any information about the timings of the bus. Being an overnight bus, it must be leaving around midnight and arriving early in the morning, so I'm almost sure I can catch one of the morning trains. But if anybody knows what time the bus arrives in Sholapur, I'd appreciate it.
Thank you. |

Are you happy with an overnight bus?
What if you could do an overnight train journey instead? It wouldn't be from Aurangabad, but from either Ahmadnagar or maybe Manmad or Belapur, I seem to remember the Maharashtra Express has some Sleeper Class coaches that are detached and taken to Solapur (arriving at about 08:00). If this option sounds OK, I'll get the full details for you.

Thank you for your advice. I think I've found the train. It's 1040 MAHARASHTRA EXPRESS, which arrives in Sholapur at 08:50, right? I'll think about the option. Thank you!

That's the train.
I've heard that Ahmadnagar is a great place to visit, but this train doesn't depart Ahmadnagar till about midnight, so unless you have a day or so to spare I don't think it would be worth visiting as a tourist place. |

Just checked this train. (awful 00:50 departure from Ahmadnagar), the train gets to Daund Jn at 02:40, the Solapur carriages are taken off and they wait to be connected to a train that runs from Mumbai (Chennai Mail - train 1027), the train then departs Daund Jn at 05:15.
The reason I mention this, running behind the Chennai Mail should be the CST-Bijapur passenger train - train 1329 (passing Daund, and Solapur on Mon, Tue, Wed & Thu only), this would make a good connection, though the CST-Bijapur train doesn't get to Bijapur till 12:10, and only has Sleeper Class. |

Thank you for your another useful advice, Steve. You're right about the awful departure time at Ahmedanagar. I've never been there, don't know where the station is, so it's scary to think about wandering around there in the middle of the night. I can arrive there several hours before, but I'm not very keen on killing those hours.
I'm thinking of taking an earlier train, 2628 KARNATAKA EXP departing Ahmedanagar at 18:30 and arriving in Sholapur at 00:01, checking in a hotel near the station (I've found one on the Internet). This way I can take an early morning train from Sholapur to Bijapur. I'm interested in taking a local train on this route. Another thing is Bagalkot-Gadag part. Is it still closed for conversion? |

Steve, I think (I hope!) I've figured out which trains to take from Ahmadnagar to Solapur.
1334 CSTM FAST PASS AHMADNAGAR 19:05 DAUND JN 21:20 1555 PUNE SUR PASS DAUND JN 00:40 SOLAPUR JN 06:35 I'm comfortable with this route because I can avoid the awful midnight departure time at Ahmadnagar, I will have a long-enough layover at Daund, I can sleep on the train for 6 hours and arrive in Solapur early in the morning. What do you think? Is this legit? |

Hi guys, please, can any of you tell me how much time it takes from Aurangabad to Solapur by night bus? I am looking for a fast way to go and the train seems too long, with all these stop overs in Ahmednagar and so on. I'll appreciate your answer!
Thanks a lot! |

Aurangabad to Sholapur bus timings are dep : 11:30 pm, arrival at Sholapur at 6:00 am ( overnight journey) by private 2 x 2 bus. Going via Ahmadnagar is not a good idea.

Thanks a lot!
The timing is pretty ok, with about 7 hours journey. What is a 2x2 bus, is it comfortable? Do you have any idea about how much is the ticket?![]() |

I love Ahmednagar dearly (so not unbiased). But' I would say say for a day visit maybe not. There is a good fort at the opposite end of the town from the rail station. However. I don't know if they allow access as its an active fort, like they once did (travel now as later its worse). A modest but excellent museum and people that are welcoming to the extreme round it off. Not easily accessible is a tomb inaccurately known to locals as Chand Bibi's Mahal. A motorcycle and someone with good local knowledge is necessary (not common). Its my second favorite site in India. But, I may have been too affected by reading Kim at an early age and being overly romantic despite my neoclassical intellectual bent. Lots more industry and population than when I was there. Shirdi may be possible as a day trip. Lots more industry and population than when I was there. Shirdi may be possible as a day trip.
Sholapur, all I remember is a very nice temple/pilgrimage site about 19 miles out. Mostly agroindustry. But, full of Marathi speakers so it can't be bad. Told you I was biased.. |

The bus looks attractive, and 2 X 2 is normally OK, I even managed to get 30 minutes sleep on a 2 X 2 last December, though it was a 7 hour journey, overnight buses terrify me, they're great for thrill seekers, but I just can't sleep on them and have long since lost the desire to witness near head-on collisions every 2 minutes. Shirdi seems like a place that's worth a day, and the nearest railway station (Kopargaon) is only 10-12kms away. (a new rail line will soon open to Shirdi). If I went for a day to Shirdi, I'd then choose the Maharashtra Express (train 1040), departing Kopargaon at 22:20 and getting to Solapur at 08:50. |

Thank you all for interesting and useful information. Steven, sleeper car doesn't bother me at all, and actually I like regular stop trains, although tooting of the horn might be a problem.
The overnight bus seems to be convenient in terms of its timings, so I'll decide about bus or train in Aurangabad after checking the seats of the bus. Thank you! |
