Its an eight hour drive one way.

If you want to sit in a car for sixteen hours in a day, be my guest... i would not choose such an option.

More info always helps, in this case....Budget?

I'm still not 100% convinced of the following, but a trusted website tells me it's true, and the airline seems to be taking bookings.

Jagson Airlines flight JA701 departs Mumbai (not Tuesdays) at 07:30 and gets to Shirdi at 08:25 - Rs4299 one way.

There is a return flight departing Shirdi at 14:30 getting to Mumbai at 15:25, same price, no discount for return tickets.

....Timescale?

There is a new rail line being built to Shirdi, though the total travel time by train would still be too long for a day trip.

....Day time or overnight travel?

Overnight train may be an option, I remember seeing one in a timetable, however...

....Sleeper class an option?

The train only had Sleeper Class (not air con), so may not appeal to everyone.

The sansthans dharamshala is very near to the SAMADHI MANDIR.yes it has to be booked in advance because it is the preferred choice of many.for such a short stay you can look at any other option...by the way accomodation is never a problem there except maybe at the time of some festival.
