Question Mumbai - Goa - Mumbai by bikes

We are planning to go to Goa by bike. We have decided to cover the distance between Mumbai & Goa in Three days. Need some information to help us through.
  • The suggested route. - the more scenic the better.
  • Places to stay along the way.
  • Good beaches in Goa to visit - not too crowded.
  • Not too expensive place in Goa to stay.
  • Are there ferry services from Dighi to Mumbai that can even carry the bikes?
  • Any other tips you would like to give us as this will be the first time we will be covering such a distance on bikes.

Mumbai to Goa on Bike will be huge distance for a first timer.
600 Kms one way is massive. You can cover 250-300 kms a day on bike. dont plan beyond that. else u ll loose all ur energy in travelling. and it is not safe also.

I am just back from a bike trip to konkan (Ratnagiri). and would strongly suggest you to go there. (You can see my thread put today), unless u r going there for skin and drink. The beaches and scenary in kokan is great and untouched. and stay pp pn can be as low as 150/-.

still if u want to go to Goa, i would suggest u to go by NH17 and come back by NH4. NH4 is faster. but not much to see around.
NH17 is scenic. while going u can take a halt at Chiplun. and while coming back take a halt at satara. or koyna nagar (60 km detour after karad)

We have decided untill now to cover the journey in three days.... with the first stop at Shriwardhan, the second at Sangmeshwar near Ratnagiri & from there to Goa. Yes, we are taking the NH17.

Three days may be too long IMO. Two is just fine. I would suggest breaking from Mumbai at Ganpatiphule, staying a day there, and then next day to Goa. Its just 600km, not that much either (IF you're used to biking, else take a volvo).

PS: Oh jesus, you mean motorbikes, or human powered cycles?
Apologies if its the latter. Its too much for the latter - ignore everything above then!

lol, then like I'd say, real bikers, do it overnight in 10-12 hours via NH17

PS: To be taken with a sense of humor! But yeah, i'd anyday just ride overnight provided the headlights are good! even a 4am start would do just fine.

What motorcycles are we talking about here? I am intrigued. Do you have some serious machinary, or the Karizmas and Pulsar 220s of India?

ummm - I've got a P180. Did patnitop-delhi (just under 800km) in like 16-17 odd hours, besides amdavad-jaipur in 17 hours.

I have friends who've done 2500km in 36 hours on a karizma so I can pretty much attest that mum-goa in 10-12 hours is pretty much par for the course!

Hello TyrelMiranda,

I have been to Goa on bike from Mumbai last year.

There are two routes to goa from mumbai. The first one of from National Highway No. 4 followed by Natinoal Highway No 4A. This route is little londer as compare to other route and as this is 4 lane highway for the first 450Kms, average speed and the comfort remain good. 60 Kms out of last 100Kms is two lane road which is highway 4A. Last 40 Kms is very pathetic. That should not be even called road.

If you are taking this road, route would be Mumbai ==> Pune ==> Kolhapur (night stay at kolhapur). net day mmorning leave from Kolhapur ==> Belgaon (NH 4 ends here and take 4A) ==> Londa ==> Panji. Road between Londa to Panji is very bad. Plan accordingly so you cover this last part during day time. Otehrwise during night this road is risky.

If you are planning to take another road which is NH 17, the entire NH17 is two lane. Lot of traffic and community at the distant locations. But it is shorter by 65 Kms.

I went through NH4 and came back by NH17. I would suggest NH4.
