MTDC Resort in Aurangabad
Hello all
Newbie to Indiamike here, though I have been lurking for a long time (this site has been a godsend in helping me plan my India trip) I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum.I was just wondering if anyone had stayed at the MTDC resort at Aurangabad and what their experiences of it were. I'm struggling to find many reviews of it. Thanks Nayantara |

Stayed there. It is a decent place. It is a bunch of buildings within a gated compound with a lawn in front and hence quite safe. Fair number of Westerners stay there also (gauged from the people at the reception
)The rooms in the buildings near the gate/office are better. They will show you the rooms and you can choose The ones in the blocks to the left of the office (facing towards the office) are a bit musty Convenient location, very close to railway station, has a bunch of restaurants in walking distance and also one within the complex The only thing wierd is a check out time of 8 am! I was out by 6 hence have not tried its enforcement. Overall I would recommend it. |

Thanks so much for that comprehensive review. That sets my mind at ease! I think we'll give it a go.

Lonely at midnight, yes. At which point one is sleeping in the room in preparation for the 8 am checkout
. But seriously it is on a fairly large road so I dont get the lonely part. If you mean the long corridors in the buildings, yes that can give the place a slightly 'institutional' look. Which leads me to clarify that it is not a 'Resort' resort in terms of relaxation. It is a neat clean place meant to sleep and then get on with ones travels! |

Stayed at MTDC, Aurangabad this May and here is my opinion.
-AC rooms (Rs.1100) are spacious and comfortable with clean toilets. -Starting point for daily trips to Ellora-Daulatabad & Ajanta. Classic Travels has an office and runs a mini bus everyday. This is better than ITDC. Also, cabs are parked in plenty at MTDC. -Easy to book, safe, well located & connected. You can book online - we booked through this http://www.maharashtratourism.gov.in...tshotels.aspx# -Food was pathetic. Please eat out. They have a small, clean value priced bar though :-) -The big low point is they rent out their resort & rooms for weddings. We stayed there on a wedding night. It was noisy, dirty and all crowded. Please call reception and check if there are any weddings scheduled at the resort on the days you want to stay. If yes, my suggestion is to skip. Otherwise this is a good place to stay which can make your trip to Ajanta-Ellora comfortable. Last edited by WeaKnee : Sep 26th, 2009 at 21:55. Reason: Deleted |

Fantastic! Thanks everyone for your input. One more question, our trains into and out of Aurangabad both arrive/depart late-ish (arrive 8.30 pm; depart 10.30pm), it should be safe enough getting to the hotel/station at that time shouldn't it?

Sorry, posted that before I finished. To clarify, there's no curfew or anything is there? Just that crazy early check-out!

I stayed in the MTDC resort in January this year as a base for my Ajanta-Ellora trips. I booked a 'deluxe Non-AC suite room' from their website, this was the priced higher than the standard AC rooms but I thought since it is pricier, perhaps the room quality will be good. But I wasnt too pleased. The room was big, with a separate sitting area and a elevated sleeping area. Reasonably clean, but the furnishings were really basic, it was dimly lit and bathroom was dark and stained. I would try the AC rooms next time I stay there.
On the bright side, its location is perfect, its just a few minutes walk from Aurangabad station. The tour buses start from this place ( I would recommend the Classic tour buses instead of the staid ITDC buses). Lots of restaurants including pure-veg ones, on the road outside the resort. Overall its a good option if you are looking for budget stay in the city and can take a bit of slackness in room quality ! Also, the MTDC website has '360-degree photos' of the rooms in the resort which you can check out for yourself ! By the way, the early check-out time didnt bother me as I had a full day Ellora tour booked on the checkout date. We returned to the resort by 6 pm, relaxed and snacked in the restaurant for some time and then collected our bags from reception and proceeded to Aurangabad station to catch our night-train back to Mumbai Last edited by srshenoy : Sep 29th, 2009 at 15:26. |

Thanks so much. I think the AC room would be the way to go if we decide with the MTDC resort! Good to know about the tours as well.
