Hi friends
I will be visiting Matheran this weekend with some friends.
Can you suggest me some good places to stay over there??
Our budget would be around 400 per person.
Thanks

You will get budgeted hotel there because of off-season.

Check it out, only one Neral - Matheran train is running in monsoon season. (Morning from Neral and 3 00 PM from Matheran)

Im sure you will get some hotel, and yes it should be off season now in the monsoons, but last Saturday we went there on a day trip, reached by 9am and there were maybe 10-15 cars at Dasturi. By the time we finished our walk and came back to the car park at around 2.30, it was jam packed with vehicles. Our driver who was hanging around at Dasturi said there was a constant flow of people coming in.

Nowadays, the concept of off season is rapidly disappearing.

Yes, Ive been there, it is about 30-40min drive from Jawhar along the Jawhar Silvassa road. Terrible road - at least it was when we went there a couple of years ago. The falls are spectacular - straight out of the Blue Lagoon! Suggest you wait until end August to see them at their best. See the photo here - this was in Oct or Nov. They will be fabulous now in the monsoons:

How was Kolad?

I went third time to Kolad.

We thought to do white water rafting in Kundalika river but because of heavy water flow it could not happend. Last time I was there in December and in non rainy seasion they are doing water rafting from Dam water and last time because of very slow water flow it could not happened.

We did some other activities like flying fox and traking. Atmosphere was really good and it was raining also. We bought one tant provided by Hans near river.

Kolad is really nice place for adventure activities.

AVOID matheran on weekends and holidays

hi rajesh

i have been to matheran couple of times and i have come to a conclusion NEVER EVER VISIT MATHERAN ON A WEEKEND OR A HOLIDAY, it gets too crowded and noisy, my last visit to matheran was last year during monsoon and it was a weekday, there were very few visitors but enough to give some vibrancy to the place, it was a wonderful experince, we stayed at hotel rangoli in matheran opp to the station, we were two of us, and paid around 1200/- per room ( inclusive of veg food clean rooms ) and plan to visit again this year, but this year wish to travel by toy train,

you have a great trip and do write you experince and if you need contact info of hotel rangoli, please let me know
