Hi,
You have good options available to stay in Matheran. Hotels, lodge and bunglows available there. 5 Days, you will be having great fun. But please don't spend time in hotel rooms only. If you really want to enjoy beauty of Matheran just visit various points by walk/horse. Matheran is no Vehicle Zone, so vehicles are not allowed. visit below site to get all hotel information. http://www.matheranhotels.net/ Regards Rushi |

Last year we went 4 times to Matheran in September, the first time it rained torrentially and we had to cut short our stay, the second time it rained for a few hours on one day, the remaining visits were rain free. Days are very pleasant and nights are lovely.
September and October are the best months in Matheran [for our family] when the wildflowers are in full bloom with their multitude of attendant butterflies. You need not "trek" as such but it would be a pity to go to Matheran and not enjoy the walks through the forest to the various points. You could take a horse ride or hand pulled rickshaw if you dont want to walk. You can also see hotel listings at http://www.hotelsinmatheran.net/ Also check cleartrip, makemytrip, nivalink etc. Usually all the Matheran hotels advertise packages in the Mid Day Mumbai edition classified pages, you can check at mid-day.com Rushi, thanks for that link, it is very useful.

There are many hotels near the railway station. You also will get the horses and hand pulled rickshaws from there if you want to go to some of the points. Most of the hotel packages include food.
If the toy trains are running you can get down at the station. Also if you reach there on a Thursday or Friday you can choose where to stay as Matheran is crowded during weekends. |
