Mahabaleshwar

What is there to see and do in Mahabaleshwar?

Can anyone suggest less frequented forested areas or trails / pathways that are not on the usual tourist "point to point" circuit?

Thanks.

Hi Synoymous,

Not sure if you have been or heard of a place called the Tree House closer to Lonawala. Tree House is situated in the midst of a forest in about 25 acres and heard. Below is the link for your reference.

Thank you Raghu.

Yes, I read about that on tripadvisor. It is grossly overpriced in my opinion, besides the altitude is about half that of Mahabaleshwar.

Much better than The Machan and at a fraction of the cost would be to stay at any of the hotels in Matheran which has several pristine forested trails where no visitors venture.

I am seeking information about Mahabaleshwar other than what is available easily on the net.

You can see the temples there, quite nice.
Have good sandwiches at mapro(on way at panchgani) and dont miss the strawberries with fresh cream. Pratpgarh fort is good place to spend an evening, you can miss what they call chota kashmir.
You can also visit the many starwberry farms.

I just found the best information so far about Mahabaleshwar from my own book - The Mumbai Nature Guide by Sunjoy Monga. He has written in detail about the forest trails that connect the various 'points'. Just what we are interested in.

Also found this beautiful 1924 map of Mahabaleshwar on the net:

Hermetic, what is this famous sandwich all about? I found it mentioned on the net a lot when I did a general search for Mahabaleshwar.
