Hi All,
We frds are planning to visit mahabaleshwar on 19/20th of this month. But we are confused as we are getting mixed reaction from ppl...few are saying its not right time to visit bcoz of monsoon n few are saying its good. So can you plz help me in know abt following 1. Is it right time to visit? we are 15 n wants to enjoy nature, its ok if waterfalls r not started, but we would like all the other spots. 2. Cant we do anything in monsoon in mahabaleshwar? one told me that you will have to just sit inside ur hotel coz it rains heavily there. 3. How to goto mahabaleshwar? As i know there are two way, one via pune n dont knw abt another one. Please suggest.... Thanks in advance Rish |

If I know correctly - the hill station is practically closed during the rainy season - primarily due to inaccessibility.

It is not that bad as fan of India says. But yes it is off season and being a hill station it gets heavy rains. But still nature is at its best during monsoon. You can take a chance to visit the hill station.
About two routes, the Pune route is longish one. About 280 kms. It would be Mumbai Panvel(Expressway/NH4) Pune Wai Pachgani Mahabaleshwar. The other is Poladpur route. 240 kms. It would be Mumbai Panvel (NH17) Poladpur Mahabaleshwar. NH17 would be beautiful in this season. |

It' absolutely beautiful during the rains , with the added advantage that there won't be many tourists. Most hotels nowadays in Mahableshwar are open during monsoon too so that should not be a problem. You can take nice walks over there and also go to Lingmala waterfalls which would be in full flow. As mentioned above you can either go from Pune or via the Goa highway through Poladpur and Mahad.

yes...we did go. And Mahabaleswar is at its best...too beautiful. we went last weekend only....n belive me this is the best time to visit. Cloudy, Green, Clean, cheap(off season) & only few tourists....we really had fun.
Road condition is gd, we went via Pune. I would recommend this place(at this time) to all whoever is thinking of going somewhere to chill n relax. |

Thanks Prash
Approx. driving time please? From Mumbai - Expressway, do you bypass Pune? Also please post your trip report with more details. These are always useful for intending visitors to a new place. Thanks. |
