I am an ABCD. I want to move to India so that I can run and train and compete for India in the olympic games. I want to locate a village that would be an ideal location for me to live and train from. I also want to make this village the site of a "Study Abroad" program that I hope to get some college in the US to go along with. Basically, students in the US that are interested in India can go live in a village for a semester, learning and helping out with the chores, teaching english, etc. with the village receiving cash.

To run faster, I need 1) hills and 2) milk. 3) fish would be even better. So, I want to be in an area with plenty of hills and plenty of all-natural, healthy food. I plan on running very long distances and exploring the whole region by foot.

From what little I know of the region, Amboli seemed like a good spot, although I don't want to get mauled by a leopard in the jungle while running.

so, does anyone know of some good possible locations? organic natural food is very important to me, i don't want to be someplace that uses a lot of pesticides. the more old-school, the better.

Hey Runner,
Now this is a real interesting post as per me. Seldom does anyone have such an objective in mind. I might not be able to help you to locate your destiny but would want to add some more inputs for suggestion.

Also check for a bigger town nearby where you can find all the equipment/accessories/facilities. You might require a doctor or some shoes or maybe some diet supplement etc.

Fish would be available anywhere in the coastal region, any specif fish you have in mind. (Sorry I am a veggie so might be a real stupid Question)

Also check for internet availability so you can mail people, check on indiamike and search things you require.

Also consider the CONS or Demerits of relocating to a small place. (You might have already) Power failures, infrastructure to support your lifestyle, commute, communication with locals etc.

And on the lighter note - Your performance would increase if you are confronted by a wild cat.

Hi Runner,
If you want hills and relative remoteness you have to select southern part of Konkan i.e. Southern part of Raigad Mangaon and southwards, Ratnagiri or Sindhudurg district. Most of the Thane district and northern Raigad is near to Mumbai metropolitan area and urbanising at very fast rate. Almost in all the mid sized i.e.having population above 3000 villages in the southern Konkan, you will get hills, milk and fish.
Regarding Amboli, it is a very good place to live at as it is a hill station, good connectivity of roads. The only problem of Amboli is in the rainy season when the village remains in clouds for entire 4 months of monsoon being in the high hills.
About languages, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts speak Marathi language with a distinct Konkani way whereas in Sindhudurg, Malvani dialect is spoken although people understand Marathi well.
I can suggest you one quiet little town in Ratnagiri district. Guhagar is very good. It offers all that you want sea, hills, fish and milk and also internet connectivity.
