Lonavala - can anyone tell me about housing?
Hi Everyone,
I'm planning on taking a job near Lonavala and am wondering about the housing for short and longer term. Firstly, I am wondering if anyone knows of a charming hotel or place in the area for short term stay (1-4 weeks, presumably) while I look for longer term housing? I am hoping to find a place of US cleanliness standards, and, as I say, a bit of charm, and reasonable in price. Secondly, can anyone give me an idea of how difficult it may be to find a place for rent for a longer term, 1 to 2 years, again with a high standard of cleanliness? I am wondering how long it might take me to find good accommodation in the area and how much such accommodation might cost in that area (within 30 km of Lonavala)? Third, what other thoughts, recommendations does anyone have about the Lonavala area? Thanks.. |

Dunno what you mean by US cleanliness standards, exactly, but
do check out http://www.fariyas.com/FariyasLonavalaHomePage.aspx It is an old and decent/good hotel there. You can get other accomodation in Lonavala. Apartments or houses will be obviously Indian; how American you want to make them depends on how much the budget is. Maybe you have already seen this, but http://www.world66.com/asia/southasi...shtra/lonavala Do see the links on the left of the page |

Are you joking?
Thank you, but from looking at that website, I don't think Fariyas is the type of short-term recommendation I am looking for.. I don't really consider Rs9000 per night reasonable or affordable for a hotel room, especially if I am planning on staying for a couple weeks! Rs 1500 per night would be more like my short-term budget. And by 'charm' I don't think I mean some large resort - just somewhere comfortable, actually, preferably small.
By saying US standard of cleanliness just means no beadbugs, clean rooms, clean shower, clean bathrooms, etc. |

The same site I mentioned earlier has some accomodation listed
http://www.world66.com/asia/southasi.../accommodation do negotiate if you are going to be there for a few weeks. My suggestion: Book a decent looking place first off for a couple of days, land up and look around. Lonavala is a weekend getaway for Mumbai-ites. For long term stayers, rental rates etc should be reasonable. |
