Yes, it will be possible to visit by public transport. Get down at Panvel bus depot. Cross the road and walk towards Mumbai. You will see a 6 seater auto stand. These autos will take you to Gadeshwar and back. Normally they have fixed rates but you can try negotiating. I think the charges would be around Rs 400/-
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi

Hi snonymous!! I just love the pics you have uploaded along with your write up another website too!! I would love to visit it soon and may be immediately after it rains again here in Mumbai. I loved all the pics but the one of Life size scare crow is beautiful!! It's a rare sight even in villages these days where they are using plastic covers on sticks to scare away birds!!

Thanks Naveena. You are right, nowadays one rarely sees scarecrows like that cute fellow! I wonder if the birds get fooled so easily anyway.

Thanks.

I doubt you can do it as a day return trip from Pune. First of all you need to get onto NH-3. I have no feel for how long it would take from Pune.

Between Kasara and Igatpuri on the LHS on NH-3 in the direction of Nashik, you will find a road at Jawhar Phata going through a railway tunnel. This road goes to the Middle Vaitarna valley and onward to Trimbakeshwar, Khodala and other places.

Thanks.

This will not possible as 1 day trip from Pune, a night stay is indeed required.

Matheran

We went to Matheran on Sunday.

Parking at Dasturi Naka has become a real nightmare nowadays. Fortunately we have a driver. If you go in your own vehicle without a driver, you will waste a hell of a lot of time finding a decent place to park.

The taxi drivers do not allow other vehicles to park near the entry point so private cars are forced to park in the Panorama Point trail. If you are lucky you will get a space at the beginning of the trail, else you will have to go quite some distance in.

Some more pictures - of a better variety!!

A huge number of tourists had come from Gujarat state on that day. Here is a more exuberant one!

Railway track going through the forest:

The toy train service is suspended during the monsoons. ST buses ply to Dasturi Naka every half hour from Neral and Karjat stations or share taxis can be availed at Rs60/ head.

Last but not least, the most adorable little Matheran-Kars:

@Snonymous, Nice pics. Especially the little Matheran-kers. Matheran has been always good for taking Monkey pictures but some times they get naughty as well especially with food items. It seems you are on a weekend trip spree. So where's the next one ?
