Lesser known wildlife regions of Sahyadri
For people who love wildlife areas and outdoors...there is one city name CHIPLOON on Bombay-Banglore highway.
There is one mountain name PRACHIT GARH. Arrange a guide from it's base village to take you to plateau.DO NOT GO WITHOUT LOCAL PERSON/PEOPLE WITH YOU. I am sure someone who had been there or will go there will be posting here. This is land of leopards, Bisons and much more with a scenic waterfall...and cool and calm huge plateau. IMPORTANT: Do not go there without local guide. and do not pitch tent or try to stayup there without very good experience of living in a place full of wildlife ! |

If there is so much wildlife, isn't the area a protected wildlife reserve or sanctuary or part of a National Park? In that care there must be wildlife wardens and proper arrangements for lodging in the area.

Recently on a hike to rajgad fort I came across a pugmark of a leopard. Local shepherds were looking around for lost cattle when they spotted the pugmark. They were surprised to see one so high up on the fort. The fort is surrounded by dense forest, so may be it is not so surprising.http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...hp?photo=23180

Well Prachit gadh does fall in the protected Koyna reserve and legally you need to take permission from the forest dept. before going over there. . But normally they do not give permission easily and if you are cought you will be in a bit of trouble. So I really don't see loads of toursits flocking over there since it is a protecte area. Yes the entire area is densely forested , also the forest is extremely leach infested.
