Karla Caves

I'm planning to go to Aurangabad and wondering how easy it is to get from there to Karla Caves. How long would it take to drive and can one do it all in one day and arrive in Mumbai? Any general info would be appreciated.

Karla Caves is near Lonavla . Yes , it is possible to do it as a day trip from mumbai . With the new expressway being opened ...travelling from mumbai to lonavla takes about 2 hrs . To get to Bhaja Caves , u have to climb up a flight of stairs ...not too steep though.

The caves are nice . Its one of those early buddhist caves ..and has a very large stupa . The carvings on the wall are still existent ...and in a good condition. There is a temple alongside the caves .
the caves are open from 09.00- 17.00
If you want to reach here from aurangabad , you have to come via pune . I am not sure abt how long it takes from aurangabad to lonavla ...but it definately should be in excess of 6 hrs . Just confirm on this .

- Cheers !
