you can go to Bhndardara through Ghoti from Igatpuri... Bhandardara is a good scenic spot with waterfalls (Radha Falls), Lake and Fort (Ratangarh Fort)...

if you want to stay at Bhandardara, we have to book in advance the Lake Side Cottage of MTDC

You can goto Bhandardhara, early January is good time to visit.

You can also opt for Trimbakeshwar which is around 50 KMs from Igatpuri/Goti, if you want to spend entier day then Manas Resort in Igatpuri is best place to visit.

Regards
Rushi

Igatpuri

I could only find Manas Resorts at Igatpuri. I and my wife went there in Sept-09 and found it a good place.

Actually, Manas Resorts is not one, but split into two resorts now - due to some change in family business. So you have Manas Resorts and Manas LifeStyle.

Manas Resorts:
We stayed at Manas Resorts and got a nice cottage with 2 huge rooms and an equally amazing bathroom with bathtub and jacuzzi. I did not get a room with a view of the valley, but I guess there are such rooms. Food is excellent. You have two options - either to take a with-food option while booking (1000 Rs extra) and it includes breakfast, lunch and dinner - even a snack in the evening which comprises of coconut water, biscuits, cookies, Frooti, etc. Room cost was abt 3000 Rs per person (including food) for w'ends. For Monday to Thursday, you can get it for 1600 Rs (without food). 100% advance is collected if you book on phone or net (they send a person to your home/office address in Mumbai to collect cash).

Manas Lifestyle:
I found Manas Lifestyle has flats which oversee the valley, so you mit have higher chance of getting 'a room with a view' here. There is also an ATM there and 1-2 gift shops, which came in handy when my wife broke her slippers. It has spa, a restaurant, massage parlor, etc. Want to check out this place on my next visit.

What we liked:
The place was covered with fog at 2 to 3 PM ! Even the highway was not visible. The drive from Mumbai to Igatpuri is also very scenic - best to book a cab from Mumbai. Staff is courteous and the food laid out in buffet-style is yummy. Their reception area has huge posters of directors from Bollywood (like Farhan Akhtar) and looked very desi, rustic and nice.

Disclaimer - I am not trying to promote Manas in anyway. I am just a traveller like everyone else and happened to find it on travel sites and liked it. And hope others also enjoy the place.

If you do go to Bhandardara, you can trek from Bari Village (8 Km before Bhandardara, at 792M Alt) to Kalsubai Peak (the highest point in Maharashtra (1645M or 5400ft). Supposed to be an easy day-trek, doable in 6-7 hours. Should be pretty nice and cool in Dec-Jan

the ideal time to visit igatpuri is post monsoon.
thats the time innumerable waterfalls dot them table top mountains... absolutely exquisite.

personally, my preference for hotels are for the ones which have open spaces, basic, clean and definitely not towering.
golden resort was a darn good find - and well worth the money.
nothing fancy - food was passable, decor, a tad kitschy ... but it had enormous balconies overlooking the landscape, was clean, not too many rooms - it was money well spent.
