info on ganpati phule

any one know abt ganpati Phule in maharastra?how are the roads if one wants to travel by road from gujarat ?how many days will be enough?

Well I haven't been there lately but the beach is very nice and the roads were good too, except for the last 30kms which forks from the high way. A 4 day stay over there is good enough giving you enough time to enjoy the place. I would also recommend going to Tarkarli which is a beach further down and my favorite on the Konkan coast. I guess it' going to be a long drive from Gujrat , but don't have much idea on that.

Its a great beach with good water sports options. Please book in advance and also during the rains the water sports are shut ! Due to rains the roads do get a little bad but still worth the drive..

I agree with Ronak.

It will be a very long drive from Gujarat.

You will have to take the Bombay Goa highway from Mumbai, its about 8hrs to Ganapatipule, the right turn from the highway is well signposted. Not sure what the road conditions are at present. In my opinion for what it is worth, Ganpatipule has become touristy now and lost its charm. I went there first in the late eighties when it was pristine and unknown. There was only the MTDC hotel there at the time, now there is no dearth of hotels, lodges, tourists and inevitable environmental degradation.

The 'swayambhu' temple is also worth a visit.

Hi,
Ganpatipule is around 250 / 275 kms from Mumbai.
You need to go on to NH17.
It is quite a 'touristy' place though.
I do agree with someone who mentioned Tarkarli.
It's a neat place and getting popular now.
The MTDC resort there is smack dab on the beach.
and you could visit the backwaters for a cruise or some watersports. Malvan is nearby and there's also a fort there.
However, Tarkarli is nearly 400 / 450 Kms from Mumbai.
There are some more options though between Mumbai and Ganpatipule:

nice pics d50,really admire ur courage, travel alone sooooo long routs.the places u mentioned do they have accomodetion?october will be good season for the trip? any other place with less crowd and good accomodetion on this rout from bombay to goa?

I personally prefer Tarkali to Ganpatiphule. Not to say that the latter was not nice but overall the experience , including dealing with the MTDC staff, quality of accomodation was far better at Tarkali.

I also found Tarkali to be more of a getaway than Ganpati , the only problem with Tarkali is that if you happen to be there on a day the Deccan Odyssey arrives (Friday i think) then be prepared to be ignored completely..

I agree with puchoo about favouring Tarkarli. I have been to both Ganpatipule (11 years back) & Tarkarli (Jan 08). Ganpatipule at that time was not as touristy as it is now from what I have read. Also because of the temple it attracts more crowd. While Tarkarli is really secluded & also has some other options apart from the beach like back waters & visiting Sindhudurg fort. Apart from MTDC accomodation Tarkarli has plenty of Guest houses which offer budget accomodation.

Oh well it doesn't take much to go solo. all you have to do is go for it.
anyhow...
The best part about the Mumbai - Goa highway (NH 17) is that it's never too far from the coast. All you have to do is take a right and drive along for a while and bingo, you're at the sea.
If you're looking for some quiet, non-touristy places I would advise you to avoid Shrivardhan, Harihareshwar, Ganpatipule.

Accomodation is always available, however you might not always find swanky resorts. Tarkarli has accomodation aplenty.
And some places you could visit, before Ganpatipule, I have mentioned earlier.

October would be a good time, not too hot. But then if it's during Diwali holidays then who knows how many people would be there.

Hey you could also enter Goa by bypassing the highway.
Turn in from the highway to Ratnagiri and follow the lovely interior roads (trust me this is one of the best rides i've done so far). YOu could visit Tarakrli, then continue on to Vengurla (another quiet beach place), from Vengurla go to Shiloda and from there you have a 1 minute ferry ride and you're in GOA!

cars and even trucks can be loaded on to this ferry.
from here on, on the Goa side you reach Arambol, the Northernmost beach of Goa. And then you have Ashwen, Morjim, Vagator, Anjuna, Calangute and finally Bagga.

thanx for the info, i think u r right in vacations all the places get crowded.this is catch, me and hubby both working so traveling in working days is difficult.from ahmedabad i atleast need 8 to 10 days to and fro.

You mentioned about the interior costal route you had taken on yr trip to harnai....can you lemme know from where this road begins and does it go all the way till ratnagiri...

i am planning to go to Ganpatipule from Mumbai and would want to know whether this route goes all the way without any ferry breaks...

and how good is the condition of the road as we are 4 of us with a maruti 800 or maybe we'll tk a wagon R.

Your info will help me judge my trip to a certain extent.

I did the costal route last month , driving down from Diviagar all the way to Tarkarli in six days. If you want to take the costal route then you will hav to take a right from the highway at a place called Lonere. But if you take this route then you will not be able to reach Ganpatiphule in one day as the roads are narrow and your avrage speed will be 40. Also you will take breaks to enjoy the breath taking scenary on the way. The first night you can halt at Harihareshwar and proceed to GAnpatiphule on the next day. On this day you will hav to do three ferry corssings, but in all of them you can take the car along. I personally found the road from Harihareshwar to Guhagar the most beautiful on the entire trip, absolutely breath taking.

Thanks for the very imp info dat i can tk my car along the ferry....

Can u lemme know that if i start at 5 am mumbai...then what time do you feel i'll reach ganpatipule....will it take 12 hours.....or more....coz if i takes too long then maybe i'll travel halfway on the coastal route and then get back on the highway....

BTW can you let me know the key places in order of how i'll arrive at ...like 1st alibag then kashid and so on...so that i'll know whats next and if i get lost i can ask for the next place on the list....
