How to go to Malvan area

On my next trip to India during October-November 2007 I plan to finish at the southern coast of Maharashtra just hanging around four or five days. The main problem is how to reach more or less easily the area between Malvan and Vengurla.

I'll be traveling from Vijayawada or may be Warangal/Hyderabad and
all I've found is a train three days a week to Madgaon and then the Konkan Railways to Kudal with a difficult connection.

Any suggestion???? or may be a good place where to stop on the way???

Thanks.

Jorge

Sorry, no time to check.

Are you looking at an old timetable?

The Amaravati Express from Vijayawada (and a seperate part that starts from Kacheguda, Hyderabad) is now 4 days a week with new times (getting to Goa earlier), the train number now starts with a 2.

Have you been to Hampi?

Thanks Steven. I have been two times in Hampi and I think is the greatest site in India but this time is not on my mind. I'll check the new timetable to Goa.

Do you think is possible to travel via Bijapur?? because I've never been there and may be is not a bad idea to stay one day there or even half day.

Thanks a lot.

I see there's this daily train from Hyderabad (it's a passenger though BEWARE)

0330 HYB BJP PSGR HYDERABAD DECAN 19:50 BIJAPUR 10:35

From Bijapur you could bus it to Miraj and catch the Goa Express to Madgaon and continue from there. Though the timing of this train isn't great!

That's a real long way around though, perhaps a bus to Sawantadi Road/Kudal?Malvan would be better from Miraj!

CH has offered a great option from Hyderabad.

From Vijayawada you can get train 2847, it departs at 18:55 (Tu, W, F, Su. only) and gets to Hospet at 06:23. (There might be a similarly timed train on the other days, I cant get the IR site to work at the moment)

From Hospet I think the bus takes 5 hours to Bijapur.

Have a look at this regarding the Godavari.

I think it starts from Dindi, next to Narsapur.

If you do stop at Bijapur, do visit the Gol Gumbaz and, if interested, the Ibrahim Rosa (said to be the inspiration for the Taj, but don't expect too much!) and the Jamma Masjid.

The Gol Gumbaz was the most interesting for me.

Also, if travelling from Hyderabad by road,

Hyderabad/Bijapur via Sholapur is only 400 km

Hyd/Solapur 300km, may buses ply this route (Hyd-Bombay buses, Solapur is en route)

Solapur/Bijapur is 100km, fewer options here, I would guess, but there will be buses.

Roads are good.

capt_mahajan,

Thanks for the information, will check it and probably prepare a new journey through Bijapur.

Another question about Warangal: Do you think is worth to stop for a day or a couple of days there???

Quite sometime since I stopped at Warangal, but yes, it is. The fort and the lake were nice. Can't comment on the temples, as I am not a temple person

Finding a link.. please listen to the music meanwhile

thank you for waiting.. here

Warangal can be done in a day. The only time consumer would be the drive to Palampet and back (3 hours) for the Ramappa temple which should not be missed.
