How do I get to Pune from Mumbai Airport (International)?
Hi,
I was wondering if someone can help I need to get to Pune from Mumbai international airport (I arrive roughly 10am). Can anyone tell me the best way? I will be taking quite a bit of luggage. |

With a lot of luggage, hiring a car/jeep/truck
(depending on luggage) direct from the airport is a good idea, I guess.Better to fix beforehand, if possible. At the airport you will likely be overcharged, even fleeced. There is a coach service too, as mentioned in one of these. Taxi Mumbai Airport - Pune Airport how to go pune from Mumbai airport |

If you wish to take a Volvo (bus), take a taxi from right outside the airport. Ask the cabbie to take you to the Mumbai-Pune bus stand in Dadar. Here you will find buses departing every half hour. Trust only the ones run by MSRTC. You will also find umpteen number of taxis here scheduled for Pune. Ask the taxi to take the expressway route not the old highway.

Kit-Kat's Husband <I should get my own account now !!
>We are based in Pune and usually use a family friends rental car to take us to the airport. I can give you their info if you would like. The car picks you up at your door and takes you to the airport, at a preset time & fare. We have used them for over 4 years now. I am pretty sure you could arrange to pay part of the fair upfront then the remainder to the driver when he drops you off at the airport. Holding back part of the money until the services are fully delivered seems to be a smart thing to do in India.

taxi Pune to Mumbai airport
Thanks Kit-Cat's husband. Yes, I would like to have the contact details of the pre-paid taxi you use,if that's possible, would be good to have a reccomendation.
Also, I am thinking of buying a mobile pay as you go phone in Pune for use while I'm in India. Could you reccomend the best/easiest place to buy one from? Many thanks Last edited by shadowplay : Sep 19th, 2008 at 21:52. Reason: spelling |

Hello,
From what I understand, once you have ten posts, a private messaging facility becomes available for you. I am working to get to ten; seems you only have one more to go. I should have ten within a day or two; I'd rather not post my email address in the forum if possible. When are you heading to the Mumbai airport? In regards to the phone, my husband and I will do a search and post our findings soon. Thanks... |

I used ecabs last week. Would not recommend or use them again: Here is why:
- They wanted money as soon as left the airport - The driver would speed up to 100 km/hr then put in neutral til the car slows down to about 70 then put it in gear again, most of the way to Pune. The most annoying thing after a 9 hour flight. - He would stop at after each toll and do his tobacco thing - Did not know the location, Hinjwari in Pune...had to ask about 3 times

Mobile phones
Thanks Kit-Cat
I'm going to be travelling back to Mumbai on 12th October, so plenty of time to sort out the taxi. Have also looked into the volvo coach service which runs from Aundh in Pune to Mumbai but not sure if you can book tickets in advance. Will be good to have the mobile phone info, thanks for looking into it. |

<From Mr. Kit-Cat>
If you are not carrying a lot of luggage, I would recommend the Maharastra State run bus service. They have a Specific bus type called "Shivneri", thats the one you would want. These are nice new volvo A/c Coaches, and cost you @Rs. 250 to get to Mumbai. You can buy advance tickets for these at several places in Pune. Easy enough to get those in Aundh. Check the timetable for which bus suits you, their frequency is not as great at night. * If you want, post a new thread on here and ask people for an estimate of the black-yellow taxi fare from Dadar in Mumbai to the Airport, the fare may be different if you are traveling after 11PM in the night. So that way you can know if a taxi driver is trying to fleece you. <OFF-TOPIC> I personally prefer 'Maharastra State Transport' buses, and NOT buses owned by the private coach companies -- Private buses have very questionable drivers & their vehicles are not as well maintained from a safety perspective. -- Also they take 4+ hours to reach Mumbai because of the hour long break they take at the highway rest stop. MSRTC buses take 3 hrs. |

<Mr Kit-Cat>
For the mobile phone, If you have a GSM instrument :: I would recommend using Vodafone, Their, rates are good and network coverage is excellent in and around Pune. You can probably just walk into a Vodafone store and buy a SIM card when you get to Pune. For a handset from Europe your instrument should work automatically, for a US handset it would need to be a quad-band phone for it to work in India. << VodaFone has an excellent calling card service to Europe and US called 'World Calling Cards', but this only works from a VodaFone mobile phone, check that out, you may like the rates you find>> If you have a CDMA phone:: you could use Reliance Mobile for a pre-paid service, they are the only reliable CDMA provider, as far as I know. |

Best Option - taxi from airport for dadar - tt circle (pune volvo bus) catch MAHABUS (authorised govt. bus service) it will ave around 80% of the MUMBAI-PUNE cab service.
