Hotel in Jalgaon

I have just rerouted myself to Ajanta via Jalgaon thanks to Steven.

3 questions:

Anyone have a hotel recommendation in Jalgaon? Didn't find one in the hotel listings

Is there a thread describing busses from Jalgaon to Ajanta and on to Aurangabad?

Any suggestions for the half-day in Jalgaon?

thanks

Have a look at this thread

I'm not sure if there is anything special to see in Jalgaon - we arrived later than expected (took slow train by mistake) and departed next morning for Ajanta by bus.

I recommend Hotel President Cottage in the MIDC area, on Ajanta road.

There's nothing really to do/see at Jalgaon.

Hotel Plaza, was clean, friendly and a short walk from the train station. Owner was helpful with bus info for Ajanta and Aurangabad. The early morning bus gets you to Ajanta at opening time and there were plenty of buses leaving Ajanta for Aurangabad later in the day...
I enjoyed just walking around and found there were several restaurants serving tasty food. Can't remember names but one was close to the clock tower.

Yes. Jalgaon district is famous for its Bananas. Jalgaon city is famous for its variety of milk shakes, particuarly the badaam and the pista shakes. Chalisgaon(the base for Ellora caves) makes some wonderful Malai Pedhas; and Nandan Dughdhalaya is the best!

more info on Jalgaon city:-

EJalgaon.com

Known for :-

Home town of the current President of India (2007) - Pratibha Patil

Banana cultivation

Baingan Bharta - You get the best Baingan Bharta IN THE UNIVERSE.
They grow these seperate Brinjals, exclusively meant for Bharta and not for the sabji. You gotto try it to believe it.

Mutton curry - Too hot and very spicy. But tastes heavenly. Available in few dhabas in nearby village called Asoda. But don't expect a good ambience. Just good food.

Very well connected by trains. Ideal for Ajintha. Affordable hotels.

Airport soon to be ready. Probably for flights like deccan airways.

Lots of budget hotels on both sides of the station road, as soon as you exit the railway station.
