Ganpatipule
Hi,
I am looking to visit Ganpatipule in early December. I want some information about this place. Hope someone can help me out of this. 1. Is December is a good time to visit this place? 2. How can I reach this place? 3. What are the sites/locations where I can visit? 4. Is there anything else I should visit in/around this place? |

Hi,
1) Yes December is good time to visit Ganapatipule. 2) Nearest rail junction is Bhoke or Ratnagiri from where you will get bus/shuttle for Ganapatipule. There are regular buses running from Mumbai/Pune/Goa to Ganapatipule. 3) Various beach like Dapoli, Srivardhan. Mahabaleswhar is famous hillstation on route from Pune/Mumbai to Ganapatipule. Goa is 250 Kms away from Ganapatipule. Sindhdurg is famous fort near Ganapatipule. Regards Rushi |

For Reaching Ganpatipule I always travel by Konkan rail to Ratnagiri station from where Rickshaw takes us to Ganpatipule in an hour's time for Rs350. ST buses or taxis were non-existent, though there are a few taxis which can be pre-arranged by your hotel or resort. There is a night-bus from Mumbai by Lambodhar travels also. You could take a bus/auto to Rantagiri bus stand and then catch a bus to Ganpatipule, but I wont recommend that hassle.
In Ganpatipule you basically go just to relax, so apart from the fabulous beach and Ganesh temple there is nothing much to see or do. But I always found the place so serene and pristine, didnt feel like leaving at all.. |

Since you are based in Delhi, I assume you would be traveling from there. Best way is to go by train till Ratnagiri. As srshenoy mentioned, you'll get autorickshaw right in front of the railway station. They have monopoly, so they won't reduce the price.
There is a MTDC hotel in Ganapatipule, you can book there. It is at best location, is on the beach and very near to the temple. The temple has a parikrama track in the shape of Lord Ganesha which is quite interesting. There are many other places to see around Ganapatipule like Velneshwar temple, fishermen's colony etc. There is also a privately owned 'Pracheen Konkan' which depicts the life of Konkan in earlier days. It's well worth a visit. In Ratnagiri there are many places such as black sand beach, a fort (Ratndurg kila), a Bhagwati mandir within the fort to name a few. P.S.- If you want to see some pictures and more info, you can visit my site.

1) yes, i think the winter months are awesome in konkan! So it's the best and the rush-free season.
2) Catch an overnight bus from mumbai central, or take a train upto ratnagiri, then travel for 35kms by bus to reach ganpatipule. 3)The beach, swayambhu ganesha temple, malgund, marleshwar are tourist spots |
