Ellora Caves from Mumbai

Is there a way to make the Ellora caves trip in one day from Mumbai? So far the only way I have is taking an early train from Mumbai for Aurangabhad which gets there around 1 and then taking a flight back to Mumbai around 7 or 8.
Does someone know a better way?

Ah, fighting against the realities of time and space. Its a long train trip. If I remember corectly its a good drive, at least 5-7hours, Mumbai to Pune to Ahmednagar to Aurangabad environs. I was usually exhausted making the Nagar Pune journey but I was doing the driving..

Not possible to make the trip in one day. even if it is managed there is no charm in doing it. I am planning a road trip from Mumbai to Ajanta, Ellora, and the Lonar crater in March.

Hello,

perhaps you would consider the overnight train from Mumbai to aurangabad and vice versa. the train comming form Mumbai arrives early morning and the train for mumbai leaves aurangabad after 8 in the evening.

This would allow you a full day to explore ajanta ellora.
