Can anyone recommend a good driver and car (we will pick up guide at the caves) to take us early in the morning from Auranagabad to the Ajanta caves and then the next days to the other caves in teh area. Any suggestions on prices we should be paying?
Thanks guys Ian |

Thanks Beach
Although my experiences with the local buses have been delightful (NOT) - I would prefer a bit of luxury for the final part of the trip.. so any other suggestions would be most welcome

The hotel you stay in should be able to arrange a car for you or else there are a lot of travel agents near the train station that do the booking for a car and driver together for a day trip to Ajanta and back for a fixed amount. The prices depend on which car you are using, so it could be anything from Rs4 per km to about Rs7 per km. Also depends on the car's condition and the agency involved. Airconditioned cars cost more than the normal cars. In the peak season the rates are not likely to be cheap so it will surely be on the higher side.
Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil.

About the rickshaw guy, I know one who is pretty reliable as I have been on three trips with him everytime I was there!!! His name is Anees and his mobile number is 09372004885. But this is only for the Ellora Caves (both the sites) and Aurangabad trip which he charges Rs300 for six places all together, with the Daulatabad Fort, Khuldabad, Bibi Ka Makbara, Panchakki, Grishneshwar Temple as well as the Himroo Saree Showroom thrown in for free where you can see the art of Himroo sarees being made on the handloom (and you don't have to buy anything if you don't like it!!!). Ajanta is too far to go by rickshaw so I would still recommend the tourist bus that is pretty comfortable or the hired car/taxi. I have roughed it out on the state transport buses as well twice and gone by the MTDC bus once and returned once by the private taxi for the same fare as the state transport bus as the taxi was leaving empty without anyone in it so the driver took us at the bus rates!!!
Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil. |
