Cross Country Voyage: to Stop or not to Stop?
Hi. I will be enduring a 36 hour train ride from Mumbai to Kolkata. The ride will take me right the way across the mid-section of India. Now, I was wondering, for my own sake....would it be worth it to take 1 or 2 days rest in Nagpur, or Raipur half-way there? I'm not the sightseeing type traveller, so just as long as something interesting is about, I'll keep occupied. Is there anything in either of these two cities? Could you recomend anything to do, or places to stay? Especially Raipur, I can't seem to find much on it.
Thank You Very Much |

Your question has been answered on this thread and Nagpur looks to be the place to stop for a day or two.
There are 2 ways of booking your train ticket. A ticket to Nagpur + a ticket to Howrah (Calcutta) OR a ticket to Howrah using the 'break of journey' rules. When you are travelling over 500 Km you are allowed to break your journey once (after 500 km) for up to 2 days, (twice if the journey is over 1000 km). (not available for Rajdhani or Shatabdi express trains) * the examples below are for 2 tier air con class and do not include reservation or safety fee * Mumbai to Nagpur Rs 1193 + Nagpur to Howrah Rs 1460 = Rs 2653. Mumbai to Howrah using break of journey rule = Rs 2054. Both reservations can be booked in advance. Train 2809 (Mumbai - Howrah Mail) seems to be well timed, Mumbai CST 20:30, Nagpur (arr) 10:55, Nagpur (dep) 11:15, Howrah 06:30. |
