Call up any of the ST Depot enquiry nos. And find out. There was a bus some four years ago.... unlikely that they'd have cancelled it.

You can find the numbers at this link (scroll down a bit)

Hi,
Couldn't find the bus service as suggested (did not call on the numbers given though ... my parents, somewhat aged, were slightly wary of travel and wanted a luxury bus rather than ST and private operators suggested running buses but not at the peak time).
However taxi operators came in handy, and in fact, if the price quoted on internet somewhere are correct (800/- one way, though I have a feeling this is wrong), then quite cheap as well. (Indica Non-AC for 6.00 per km. Costed around 3400 all together with driver's charges 150/- a day.).

Thanks for help in any case!

You taxi prices are a bit high it is about 2000 Rs for the whole day or 200km per day.

Here is how the mumbai hikers reach bhimashankar

Hmmm ...

Can you also suggest some reliable taxi operators? (for future use)

I knew of the trekking route, but then it was unsuitable for my parents.

Thanks anyways.

As bhimashankar is outside mumbai's limits normal taxis will not ply. You will need to book a tourist taxi.

There are a couple of ways to get a tourist taxi.

1)You can approach a travel agent near the area you are living. They would have a list of tourist taxi operators/car hires around the area you are living.

2) You can goto Just dialand search for the key words "Tourist taxi Operator" and find one closet to your location also as their charges fluctuate, call a few of them and then compare their rates.

DEAR VAIBHAV,

TO GO TO BHIMASHANKAR, YOU SHOULD GO BY ST FROM KURLA OR PAREL, THERE ARE DIRECT BUSES FOR BHIMASHANKAR. I KNOW WE BEING IN MUMBAI, DONT LIKE TO TRAVEL BY ST. EVEN YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT YOUR AGED PARENTS TO TRAVEL BY TAXI. BUT I STILL SUGGEST TO GO AND TRAVEL BY ST. ITS QUIET COMFORTABLE AT THE COST. THEY COST VERY ECONOMICAL AND AT THAT RATES ITS COMFORTABLE. AND SINCE ITS STARTING FROM KURLA OR PAREL, I THINK YOU SHOULD GO THE DEPOT AND OCCUPY THE SEAT WELL IN TIME SO THERE IS NO MUCH PROBLEM.
TAXIS ARE REALLY EXPENSIVE THOUGH ITS LUXURY.
REGARDS,
SHAILESH

Hey... going to Bhimashankar from Bombay... is a longish affair...

Go to either Karjat or Kalyan... from both the place you have either buses or shared taxis going to Bhimashankar....

If you really want to enjoy... go to Karjat... and take a shared taxi till the foothills of Bhimashankar... and then trek your way up....

State buses do ply from Mumbai to Bhimashankar. One leaves from Kurla nehrunagar at 12:00 noon. (Cross check on the confusing official website). I took the same bus last year.
I had heard about share taxis to Otur/Manchar. Not about Bhimashankar. I think there is NO road from Karjat to Bhimashankar. Its actually a trekking route.
