Bhandardhara/Malshej/Lavasa/Matheran?
Since the monsson rains have finally arrived, I am looking to go for a nice drive to a green hill station near Mumbai. Would be staying for one night.
Plan to go tomorrow i.e. June 27 and return on June 28th. Tops on my list were Bhandardhara and Malshej Ghat. But there are no rooms available there. Next I thought of Lavasa. (Have already been to Amby Valley so dont want to repeat). If that also doesnt work out, I am thinking of doing Matheran. But I dont want to go to a crowded place. Can someone suggest hotels/homestays in the following places: 1. Bhadardhara (excluding MTDC and Anandvan) 2. Malshej (excluding MTDC) 3. Lavasa 4. Matheran Buget is 1-1.5k per night. Thanks in advance Nish |

Hi,
Monsoon just arrived so Bhandardara and Malshej wont be more scenaric and you are not loosing more. Matheran, who told you that It will be crowded. Even in pick season you will not find Matheran crowded. This is most off-season in Matheran, and you will get accomodation easily (subject to hotels should be open). Most hotels are closed in Matheran in rainy season. But few hotels are available and you can get good hotels even @ 500 RS par night rate. I am planing to go there on this weekend, I inquired about 2-3 hotels but they are closed. I will get accomodation there itself. As par latest news, only 1 train is runing between Neral to Matheran (and that is subject to condition of Weather). Hope to see you there ![]() Regards Rushi |

Guess this is a bit of a late reply, but I wouldn't recommend Lavasa to anyone. It's mostly under construction so it's noisy and messy right now. And I went there the last weekend of June - it was also terribly hot then - hardly 'hill station' weather!

I guess this is a late reply but then when I had gone to Malshej in August 2008 there was just one more place by the name of Sushant holiday home other than the MTDC one.

Yes Vinay,
There are only two resorts available MTDC and Sushant. This season I went two times, 1st time in end of june and at that time Malshej was very crowded. Last weekend I went again (thanks to my relative, who insisted us to take them), and discovered no one was there. We enjoyed lot without any restriction and intruption (No Drinks). Regards Rushi |

What is the road like from Kalyan, and is there any water in the falls now? I believe there was barely a trickle a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking of taking my elderly parents there this weekend as my mother expressed a desire to go there again [she has excellent memories of the waterfalls from years gone by] but if the road is very bad, we will not go. Thanks

Thanks Rushi, yes it would be Saturday not Sunday as our driver will also be available. Might wait for some rain and do it next Saturday, unless hopefully ??? it rains heavily between now and Saturday.

It is okay even if it is not raining, last week clouds poured enough rain to run those waterfall atleast for 1 month.
I would suggest to go with parents when it is not raining, otherwise they might spend trip sitting in Car only. Don't miss a chance to see Malshej Fall (Main 5 tips Fall), it is quite decent and looking volcanic this days. Regards Rushi |

sorry snonymous & rishi, i would like to differ from your views.
rushi : malshej is at its best when it is actually raining. nothing like getting drenched wearing a raincoat. rishi : malshej on a sunday is not quite recommended for a family trip. lot of hooliganism & drunk people these days. |

We did not go to Malshej Ghat because my mother said she did not want to sit in a car for so long as her knees swell up. Eventually we went to SGNP and saw some lovely wildflowers, a peacock who ran across the road, a baby langoor who fell off a branch and waited patiently until his mummy came to pick him up, a friendly lizard, big spider and a very 'chalu' big monkey who was standing up on his hind paws and actually begging for food! Quite an enjoyable if short outing. My parents were happy and that is what really counts at the end of the day.
