Aurangabad to Bijapur
I want to reach Bijapur from Aurangabad.
I haven't found direct connections, but an earlier thread mentioned a night but to Solapur and change there. Is this the most convenient way to span this leg of road? How long should I account for? Alternatively I was also considering a night train to Hyderabad that appears to be an interesting place, plus another night train to Bijapur. What would you advise? Thanks. |

Probably the best way is through Bombay. There are no direct trains from Aurangabad to Solapur.
Hyderabad is an interesting city. The old city, Golconda etc are some reasons to pay a visit, but still Bijapur is far away from Hyderabad and not very well communicated. A very nice journey is Hyderabad - Bidar - Gulbarga - Bijapur but the only way is by bus and it takes really long. Bidar is a real gem lost and hidden, one of my favorites sites in India. Gulbarga is just on the way from Bidar to Bijapur. Jorge |

Thanks Jorge,
I know there are many interesting places to see, but I have to skim off the things that I think I can mangage in this long trip from Mumbai to Chennai, which means having my mouth water at the desire to see lots of places, and falling short of my ambitions all the time. I will try to make it from Aurangabad to Sholapur by bus, and then change to Bijapur. |

I got a night bus from Aurangabad to Sholapur (7 hours ride) and from Sholapur it was a couple of hours more to reach Bijiapur. Leaving at 11 pm, I got there by 8.
It was altogether an easy journey. What I hadn't anticipated was the time it would take me from Hampi to Hospet and then to Belur. It was an horrendous day of 11 hours on 4 or 5 successive buses. If the guidebook (LP) had better specified the distances, I'd have opted for a night bus there as well. At least all the buses started within minutes of me getting at the station. It was fairly efficient from this point of view. Regards. |
