Aurangabad/ Taj Residency
Hi all
We might get the opportunity to stay at the Taj Residency in Aurangabad in December, but I'm struggling to get a sense of where the hotel is located in relation to the rest of the city. Is the hotel fairly central? Or is it on the outskirts? I suppose it would be easy enough to get an auto or a cab into town if it isn't so central... And what about Aurangabad itself - is it just a gateway to the Ellora/Ajanta caves (plus the other monuments in the surrounding area), or is there something about the city itself that I'm missing? Thanks. ![]() |

It's not central as it's in CIDCO, an industrial estate. But given a chance, I would stay here than staying at city centre in a small hotel.
Aurngabad has Bibi ka Makbara (Mini Taj), Pan Chakki and it's own Aurangabad Caves. A famous Tara Paan Shop is also in the city.

Thanks Delhiwala. I figured that we'd be out and about during the days and would meander back to the hotel in the evenings so it doesn't matter too much that we aren't in the city centre. Apart from the monuments (and paan shop) you mentioned, is there anything in the city centre that we should look out for?

There is lot to look in Aurangabad, only if you could bother to go through my earlier posts, and TAJ is located on outskirts of the city on Jalgaon Road, There is nothing where TAJ is located, you could have chosen hotels like RAMA INTERNATIONAL, ATHITHEE, and lots other which are in Centre of the City, and reasonable too ,
read this post Maharashtra off-beat And after living in this place all my childhood I can tell you some really nice places to see, better hire a taxi / cab and ask the driver to show you these places, he will tell you importance of each and every place. In the City: Panchakki Bibi ka Maqbara Aurangabad Caves , University Campus ( there is my office ;-) , where I worked) In university campus there is one mountain which you can climb easily its known as GOGA BABA. Nearby outskirts: Ajanta Paithan ( nothing but big garden, and a Dam is there) around 60 kms from Aurangabad) 1 Ellora Lonar Crater / Lonar Lake ( lake formed by meteor collision , about 150 kms from Aurangabad) 2 Mhaismal (en route visit tirupati balaji temple if you like going to temples, its replica of tirupati balaji temple) mhaismal is hill station,,, 3 Daulatabad Fort 4 Grishneshwar Temple (temple of Shiv) places 1-2-3-4 are on same route. Shopping : Tilak Path Paithani Sarees, sold on shops enroute to ellora, these sarees range from 5000 to over 2 lakh rupees, Himroo Shawls, To eat: Uttam Upahar Gruha , location Gulmandi, a small sweetmeat shop famous for BHAJIAS and JALEBIS, Thatbaat , location: near vivekanad college (they serve food in silver plate n spoons) 56 Bhog , Location Central Bus Stand road, they serve 56 items to eat ,,, also you can ask for chai at certain hotels with malai chai, ( Tea) ;-) You can eat Dabeli, Vada Pav, Bhelpuri at roadside stalls. And what more to tell you, in December climate gonna be kewl ;-) Aurangabad also known as city of gates, coz wherever you go you will find gates , old gates, big big gates,, ;-) Tara Paan Centre, location : Osmanpura, Pan ranges from 5 rs to over 25000 rupees . and many places to see, really miss this place, also had one sweetheart there ;-) , for more information google for photos , information on any of the above keywords. IN google maps , you can view whole map of aurangabad, with Taj and other hotels ;-) |

Hi rsk11584, thanks for this. I thought I had done a fairly extensive search through the forums (long time lurker on this site) but obviously a few things slipped by!
The option for the Taj came up because a cousin of mine works with them and is getting us a great deal so I don't feel as though I can say no. But hiring a car and driver would be the seem the best way to go!Thanks. |
