Aurangabad, Ellora & Ajanta

Is it worth it to get a travel agency to take you around the sites to see in Aurangabad, Ellora and Ajanta caves or is it better to just do it on your own. The travel agency usually picks you up from the airport and takes you to different sites. I am not sure if it includes a guide for the different sites.
If it is worth it, does anyone know of a good reputable agency?

Thanks.

That's the plan. I was just wondering since it's 3 of us if it's worth having a car take us to all the places and work on our time instead of hopping on the bus.

As Jyotirmoy says, stay in Aurangabad and make day trips to Ellora and Daulatabad one day and Ajanta another day. You'll find plenty of cars/taxis with driver all around Aurangabad. In the Railways Station area everybody will ask you if you are looking for a car..., the price is around 800 rupees to Ellora-Daulatabad and 1,000 - 1,200 to Ajanta.

now there are guest houses in Ajanta.

Aurangabad is the traditional base and there are lots of hotels there. In the early morning take an auto rick the 10 or 12 km to see Ellora. Ajanta is a good 60 plus km from Aurangabad and bus or taxi takes you there. If you are going to do the caves give a day for each. If you plan on staying longer you can get a guest house like I wrote before in Ajanta. There are no guest houses in Ellora.

May in the Deccan would be Murder. The locals at Jalgaon said the weather hits 50 C in May and June. That is not funny.
I would give a whole day to Aurangabad caves/ Bibi ki maqbara and Daulatabad and a day at Ellora and a day at Ajanta.

Jalgaon is is closer to Ajanta and has a good range of eating and sleeping options.
Just take a local bus to get around , i even hitchhiked with a pathani looking truck driver to get back from ajanta to jalgaon. He kept stopping to pray so it took ages to to get back from Ajanta, but it was an experience.
It was April 2004 and 43 degrees daily.
