Ajanta steps to the caves
Ajanta steps to the caves
Hi India Mikers,
I am 66 years old and planning to go to Ajanta. I have heard that there are many steep stairs up to the entrance. I believe that you can be carried up in a chair by four men, but I do not really want to do this, since I am not royalty or some dictator.
I read on a blog that there are the equivalent of ten flights of stairs, however I do not know what their idea of a flight of stairs is. If anyone is going to Ajanta please could you give me an idea of approximately how many steps there was, when they return or did anyone count them when they were there !!!!!
Thank you so much

I didn't counted the the flights but let me give you some idea. Yes you can go by chair but it not difficult to climb also.
From ticket counter to main entry point before cave number 1, you have two options to climb. One is by stairs and other is by ramp. So, if you have problem with stairs then take second option. I also took ramp because its less crowded because most of the people and chair carrier take stairs. Once you reach at main entry point there is no major ascend or descend.
After this you have to ascend or descend one flight up or down and there are enough places to sit and relax.

Anthony, we are about the same age of you and had no problems with the stairs.
The caves open at nine, you better can try to be there as early as you can. It is less crowded and not so hot as later on the day.
