The ferry service from Gateway is the best way to reach Alibaug. Checkout the timings here,
http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...4/limit/recent The Alibaug beach is very shallow and not good enough to take a dip, for that head to Kashid, Nagaon or Kihim. You can make your base at Alibaug, Kashid or homestays at Nagaon and Kihim. Also try to visit Murud Janjira. Have fun :-)

if you are looking for a good beach, then do not waste time at alibaugh and proceed to kashid

Alibaug and beaches
You can take a ferry from GWOI to Mandwa jetty...thats around an hours boat ride. From there it will take you another 1/2 hr to reach Alibaug.
You can visit the Kulaba fort at Alibaug..amongst beaches...Kihim beach is close to Alibaug...where as Kashid is a little further south...both are good beaches. You can als visit the fascinating Murud Janjira fort. Distances: Bombay-Alibaug by road- 90 km Alibaug-Kihim-17 km Alibaug-Kashid-35 km Alibaug-Murud Janjira-50km You may also like to visit my blog http://vijh.blogspot.com for more details as I just did a bike trip in Konkan...which covered all this and more.

Hi..
Alibaug is just not the greatest beach. You should visit the beach belt south of alibaug viz, revdanda, kashid, nandgaon. Instead of going to alibaug, you can go to murud by a state transport bus and then visit the Kashid beach and Janjira fort. Regards, Yogesh

Buying it from Alibaug will be cheaper. However, if you fancy a cold beer, then better to get it from the local shop / restaurant. Cheers |

Viksheku and others,
Do you have any idea how busy the beaches here will be in early November? The more I read about Goa, the more it comes to sound like "the Phuket of India" and not the type of place I want to be in at the start of the high season! I'm wondering if Raigad/Alibaug would be a better option. Thanks for any advice. |

Blitzen: If you are visiting India, please dont come all the way to go to Alibag!
It is for a weekend getaway from Bombay. Extremely crowdedGoa despite a Phuket reputation has enough non mainstream beaches and things to do other than beaches if you want to. It still is an amazing place to go for the experience. If you really want to do off the beaten track then you can work your way down the konkan coast and visit beaches like vengurla and tarkarli and work your way down the coast |

Genesis, thanks very much for the advice; much appreciated. Apologies if this is too much of a hijack, but which Goan beaches would you recommend as likely to be least hectic in the first week of November? (I've read everything I've been able to google on this topic and found some very contradictory information- I have no idea what to expect from any of them at that time of year anymore!)

Arambol in North Goa, Palolem in South Goa...would be examples of slightly less happening beaches.
Yes you will find palefaces all over goa but if you stay away from the 'happening' calangute, anjuna, candolim areas you should be away from a Phuket experience. You should be able to find more detailed answers in the Goa forum. Happy Planning! |
