Hi All,

Could you please comment on the following itinerary?

Bandhavgarh (3N) - Amarkantak (2N) - Kanha (2N) - Bhedaghat (2N) - Panchmari (3N) - Pench (2N)

1. Am I following the right way so that travel distance is minimum?

2. Also Please suggest me some accomodations in the above places? I have seen the MP Tourism hotels but not sure if they are having value for money, any comment in that regard?

3. Specially need help for Panchmari Accomodation as only MP Tourism is having 6/7 different hotels. Satpura retreat and Rock End is out of Budget. So any recommendation among the others.

4. The Car rental is coming around 2500 per day for a non a/c Tavera/Qualis kind of Car. Is this reasonable? Can you please provide contact numbers of few people who can be approached for car rent?

Thanks for your help.

Your trip looks pretty good. The amount of time at different locations is just about right. But factor in the time taken to travel. Avoid travelling at night.

Perhaps if you can tell time of your visit, mode of transport from Kolkata for to and fro journey then members might chip in.

As for Pachmarhi Hotel you can try MP Tourism's Hotel Highlands.
Nice rustic setting, rooms are decent no luxury though, food is just about Ok. Its the first property on the left as you enter Pachmarhi from Pipariya side.

Taxi rates appear to be a bit high. Normally its about 200Km per day with 10/- per KM inclusive of everything for Tavera / Innova.

EOS thanks a lot for your quick reply.

I am planning to take Mumbai Mail via Allahabad and get down at Katni and arrange a pickup from there.

Then after spending 3 nights in Bandhavgarh , I plan to take the car as otherwise it would be a waste to keep a car in any Forest.

From Bandhavgarh - Amarkantak - Kanha (Here again the car would be idle but I can't avoid it seems) - Bhedaghat - Pachmari would be the trip. I would leave the car here as in Panchmari, I need to hire gypsys anyway for Dhupgarh and Bee Falls (Those are in Forest area)

Then I expect to arrange a drop from Pachmari to Pench. Any idea how much should be that cost?

Then in Pench 2 Nights and from there again a drop to Nagpur and catch a flight back to Kolkata.

That's the initial plan at this moment.

Whereever I contacted everyone is charging for 250 km a day (with 10 Rs per km for Non AC tavera kind of car) Can you give me some contact in this regard, even 200 km a day (Rs. 2000/- per day all inclusive result into substantial savings as apart from Bhedaghat - Pachmari, I rarely would cross 200km a day)

I am planning this in End Feb/ March Begin of 2011.

Thanks

We visited Amarkantak in 2009 after an conducted tour through Chattisgarh.
We had a reservation in the MP hotel. It looked nice. But after an hour they discovered that our travel agent had made reservations for another date.
We ended in hotel Sarvodaya, the only other place. Rather basic without shower or hot water.

Thanks Vonkla, for the update, I am planning to book the MP Tourism Hotel in Amarkantak hoping that is the best option there.

What are the places to visit there considering I would like to visit the places of natural beauties more than the religious places.

What time of year you visited there and how was the weather?

Hi Kshil

We visited Amarkantak early February and the weather was fine. At that time MP was by far the best accommodation.

In our hotel we were approached by Yadoo who offered to guide us. With him and a driver we had a great day in the surroundings where we visited a lot of scenic sights.

I have written a more detailed report about it in our journal From Kochi to Delhi

Wow!! It's a nice trip report and somehow I missed it earlier. I have just read the Amarkantak part and would surely be reading it full sometimes later. Wonderful cross country journey it seems.

From your report I think I have chosen the right place as I am looking mainly the places with natural beauties and where some short scenic treks are possible.

Thanks again for sharing the link.

Anyone knows if boating is permitted in Marbel Rock in a full moon night? The local hotels confirm boating is allowed only till sunset, is there any exception for a full moon night?

The MP hotel in Amarkantak looks good, we nearly stayed there.
Amarkantak was the end place from an organized tour we made. The travel agent made reservations for us but for the wrong date. So we checked in, got a room and had to leave by the end of the day.
We ended in hotel Sarvodaya, very simple but the only other hotel.

Thanks Vonkla, atleast got some first hand information on this property. In Amarkantak it seems options are limited unlike other places.

How was weather when you visited?

We visited Amarkantak in early February. The nights were cool but the day temperature was perfect. Just a T-shirt.
If you are interested in more details, I wrote a report in my journal From Kochi to Delhi

Thanks Vonkla, it really helps, Seems to be no need of AC at night even during last week of February.
